About this deal

If you get a smart plug that uses a smart home protocol, such as Zigbee, you’ll need to have a compatible system, such as Philips Hue. This is useful for turning a slow cooker on in work, disabling the internet (by turning the router off) at meal times, and a whole lot more. This plug connects using Wi-Fi and can be controlled using the Meross app, which gives basic control, plus schedules.

However, you can plug any of your devices into the socket of your Zigbee smart plug – provided that it has a suitable power rating. Via the Home app, you can toggle the plug on and off, or include it in Automations, say turning it off when you go out. The range is made up of products that can be combined to create a personalised home lighting solution. When installing or maintaining electronic devices in your home, make sure to observe the manufacturers instructions at all times. But my WiFi plugs are pretty consistent, and seem to match the rated amperage of the pumps I have plugged into them.First, Zigbee has better range and reliability than Wi-Fi and, secondly, if you have a network failure, you can still operate the smart plug using a Hue remote control.

Adding a Hue routine allows you to choose any light/device (via a room), irrespective of whether it’s a smart bulb or smart plug. From a power monitoring standpoint, I’m not sure what your goals are, but don’t expect to measure plug loads with any accuracy or consistency over time. Once you’ve synced your device to the plug, simply ask Alexa or Google Home to turn the plug ON/OFF.They connect to standard (‘dumb’) plug-in lamps and allow you to import them into the Hue app for smart automation, with some caveats.

I recommend the water leak sensors to just about everyone since they are pretty inexpensive and can totally save your home from catastrophic water damage. Our Smart Wifi Plug is easy to use and offers the perfect solution for making your appliances smart. EVAlogic Z-wave plug-in modules also work well for me, but nothing comes close to the range of the YoLink gear, so I’ve been slowly replacing old gear with them. Nope, my Hue Smart Plug luckily shows up under “Plugs” not “Lights” within my Alexa app – so saying “Alexa, turn off the lights” will not affect my Hue smart plug.
