About this deal

A wizard arrives precisely when he means to, and you own as precisely as many copies of these movies as you need to. The inclusion of new serialized cards seems less like an exciting opportunity than a cynical method to get players to fork over cash for the same cards they bought a few months ago. In addition, there will be further releases during 2021 including a 4K UHD “Middle-earth” Ultimate Collectors’ Edition featuring the theatrical and extended versions of all six films, along with new bonus content, previously released Blu-ray discs of The Hobbit Trilogy and remastered Blu-ray discs of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. There are also some surge foil versions of specific extended-art cards from the original set that can only be found in the Special Edition. Different impressions of the same edition represent substantially the same typeset rendition of the work itself, with the same typeface, layout, and pagination, but may incorporate minor textual or formatting emendations or altered presentation elements (such as cover art, copyright page details, and prefatory material). The Folio Society edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy comes with a stunning slipcase and covers designed by Francis Mosley, which look like dwarvish art designs you’d find in Moria when the kingdom was thriving.

So the three Hobbit movies— An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies—have four discs each: the theatrical cut on Blu-ray, the Extended Edition on Blu-ray, the theatrical cut in 4K, and then the Extended in 4K. Not all of the poster cards or Realms and Relics are serialized, but each type has 100 serialized versions of each card. Players also have a chance to find surge foil versions of the Realms and Relics Box Toppers from the original Tales of Middle-earth set.

Advertising slip (included in shrink-wrap): Specifies ‘the original red and black maps by Christopher Tolkien’ as a feature, but book includes ‘The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age’ (1980 Unfinished Tales map) rather than original 1954 map of north-western Middle-earth.
