The “leatherette” surface is packed with memory foam and the result is extremely comfortable; kind of like a soft pillow for your wrists or palms, but not quite as luxurious as the wrist rest on the Razer BlackWidow V2. Moreover, even with the floating design, the keycaps are solid and there’s no cheap-feeling, wiggling keys on the G513. It’s as bright and vibrant as the illumination that the company has integrated into its higher-end peripherals, and the new LightSync tech will help synchronize lighting effects across your entire gaming setup. You can also find smaller keyboards that give you more room on your gaming mouse pad for mouse movement and comfortable keyboard position to reach all the keys and buttons. Modeled after the “tactile bump” of Cherry MX Browns, I nevertheless found Romer-Gs unpleasant to type on, even going so far as to compare them to the loathed rubber domes most mechanical keyboard lovers are trying to escape from.

This one eschews the clunky tactile bump of the original in favor of a more straightforward linear keypress. It’s also the debut of Logitech’s new Romer-G Linear switch, a Cherry MX Red-like switch that finally gives Logitech lovers some options.

Since the LED is centered you get lighting across the entire key, including both primary and secondary functions. There’s even an applet within the software that changes the colors on the G513 in-time with on-screen color changes. The G513 is the first keyboard to ship with two different options: Romer-G Tactile, which is the original switch, and the new Romer-G Linear.

A Logitech G gaming keyboard has features that are built for gamers while having many standard features found on a regular keyboard. Execute complex commands, or unleash a timed series of actions or spells with the press of a button. Hardcore MMO and MOBA gamers may despair at the lack of dedicated macro keys on the G513, but setting up macros in the Logitech software is an easy process, even if you’re forced to find some unused (for gaming) keys to set them up. Comparatively, we’ve always felt Cherry MX Red offers so little resistance, the keys chatter and feel uneven when actuated. Unlike some metal top plates, it's not a fingerprint magnet and the floating, matte black keycaps look great against the base. And with LIGHTSYNC technology, lighting is driven by games, audio, or your screen to deliver the most immersive RGB experience ever. Most notably, the G513 takes advantage of Logitech’s LIGHTSYNC functionality, which is similar to Razer’s Chroma or Alienware’s AlienFX. That said, the lack of magnets or clips to keep the rest in place means it has an annoying tendency to slip out of position on occasion despite rubber feet on the underside of the pad. The switches you have in your keyboard determine how fast you can press keys, how keypresses feel, and how long your keyboard lasts.

Lighting: Lighting doesn't just make your keyboard look cool, it also helps you see the keys you're pressing when you're gaming or typing in the dark. Anti-Ghosting: With anti-ghosting, you can press as many keys as you need to at the same time without worrying about some keys not registering. Customization: Gaming keyboards allow you to remap keys to customize your keyboard command layout, so you can have each key right where you want it. Speed: Quicker actuation speed means games recognize your keystrokes faster, which helps you make quick decisions in-game. Larger keycaps, like the spacebar in particular, don’t suffer from wobble when you’re hitting one side of the bar.

After using the keyboard for about a week, we feel the peripheral maker has fully delivered on its claims, and has developed a key switch that’s better than the Cherry MX Red switch. Customization: Being able to customize the keyboard keys, from macros to actions and system commands, allows you to get the most out of your favorite games, from MMOs to FPS and BR games. On the backside of the G513, there’s a braided cable which requires two USB ports on the PC, but the cable is thick and durable. That means if you pry a keycap off you’ll see the same footprint as the Romer-G Tactile: a center-inset LED with a square of plastic around it, secured by four prongs.
