That link did not work for me, but, I'd give normal thickness washers a miss, as I said you need a piece of thin sheet tin etc, like a piece cut from a tin of peas/beans etc, originally the hole through the heat shield will be just a bit bigger in diameter than the stud, it will always end up expanding and still being circular due to the shape of the steel retainer below it, I've been there done that on a couple of cars and I'd doubt that your car will be much different, that is always going to happen with time and moisture. As for fitment, I guess they just push over the screw stud that is peeping out the heat shield, and has lots of rust on its surface? When it comes to fitting them, I use a 10mm deep socket and a rubber mallet to tap them onto the threaded stud, then use a set of long nose pliers in the circular holes to twist the clip clockwise for some extra tightness. wobbliscott- no reason it has to bolt into the chassis though, a tab out of the chassis/floor with a hole through it could accomodate a bolt and wouldn’t be any more invoved to fit than a stud (or in the case of ford, a manky selftapper thing). Only the US and central Europe get hot enough in standing traffic to ever come close to needing them.

There is no difference in these to the genuine VAG ones that came off, from a thickness and quality perspective. You'll see some generic circular spring clips that I've used to refix (for the second time) my new rear heat shield. It drives me nuts, because at that exact location I get a deep hum and vibration that I feel in the car, the steering wheel, and my feet.I looked up myself before posting a few listings and they too came up with VW transporter, Golf fitment. Annoying knocking coming from the rear for a few weeks now, crawled under the rear and found a couple of these have corroded and fallen off making the sheild loose, could that really be the cause of the knocking, that simple ? The studs that the clips push on to are threaded and the purpose of the two holes in the clips are to be able to use a tool like needle-nosed pliers to be able to uncrew them if you ever need to take them off. If it's the former, just make a plate out of anything you like with a small hole in the middle and sandwich the heatshield under/above that.
