Greta and the Giants teaches children about climate change and what they can do to help, and I loved every second of it! The art is spectacular and vivid using bright greens and blues for the forest while the city is drawn in dark grey. Thank you to Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion. The book captured the importance of preservation efforts and outlined what global warming is and what causes it in a way that children can understand.

The book is also very cute with lovely illustrations and and a nice age appropriate way to make young children aware of climate issues. Placing activists on a pedestal and in isolation is typical of the corporate media and children’s books — we have seen the same pattern with Rosa Parks, Dr. The animals speak with her and she takes on the giants who tear down the forest and build cities, etc. Greta and the Giants is a delightful children's book that's filled with vivid illustrations and a very empowering message.

It is full of lovely, charming art, of Greta and her forest friends, and their growing and diverse crowd of human friends and supporters. When forest animals humbly come to Greta, a very small white child sporting braids and a yellow slicker, for help against the giants—“huge, lumbering oafs” who have destroyed nearly all the trees to build dark, smoky cities—she plants herself in front of the remaining greenery with a sign that says “STOP! I wish we could have that happy ending too but sadly, people's greed are too strong to care about anything but profit. This inspiring picture book retells the story of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greta Thunberg—the Swedish teenager who has led a global movement to raise awareness about the world’s climate crisis—using.

The book generated a fantastic discussion about climate change, what we can do and what needs to be done. This is the story of Greta Thunberg adapted for younger readers with analogies that would help them understand the Strike for Climate movement. This book shows how climate change is effecting the world in a way for kids to understand and gives idea on how to help slow the progression of climate change. The very end of the book has a bit of information about climate change and what small changes can be made by everyone. When I started reading this I was surprised, as I expected it to be a picture book depicting the life of Greta Thunberg.

The houses grew into towns, and the towns grew into cities, until now there is hardly any forest left. Your class will either identify the fronted adverbials in the passage for the first activity or add in some of the commonly known fronted adverbials in the second activity from a list. It somehow simplifies climate change, and the power one child has to change the world, into something easy enough for preschoolers to grasp. It would have been too easy for this allegory, inspired by the valiant, prescient Greta Thunberg, to have been preachy and off-putting.In this activity linked to Greta and the Giants, your class will add the capital letters and full stops into the passages or sentences. Of course, Harry isn’t as blasé about the move as he pretends, and eyes aren’t exactly dry when he departs.

It's a sweet, attractive book that could serve as a catalyst to important discussions with the children in your life, but I cannot imagine would be welcomed by anyone who is not friendly to the environmental movement. We need to believe we can still make a change and this way anyone reading this lovely story might find the courage to fight. In the background are two silhouetted figures, could these be the Giants mentioned in the books title? It might be too political for some, but it's an important message that everyone needs to hear, whether they agree with it or not.
