About this deal

Once more featuring the lovable Rocket, discover Bryon and Adeola's incredible follow-up to the award-winning Look Up! What I ended up doing was drawing references from different islands that I’ve come across visually and asking friends of mine to send pictures of their islands so that I could find little bits and pieces to take and put into this second book. In addition to colorful illustrations, this book has a great message about helping the environment that may make it a good fit for a STEM or beach storytime. And as if that weren't enough, one girl volunteers the services of her mother to repurpose the trash, fashioning bins for trash from the stuff the group collected. If all appears to be well, stand the book upright in a closed container so that its pages are fanned out.

When they are familiar with the story children could join in for example with all the things Rocket is looking forward to doing in Jamaica, conversation with Grampy and the ‘Did you know’ page. Here’s how to prevent bad things from happening to vellum, which is by far the best way to care for it.This is a heartwarming, timely and empowering picture book, showing how we ALL can make a difference. Its purpose is to spread awareness of plastic pollution on the ocean and how dangerous it is for ocean life. This is a story to raise awareness of the threat of plastic pollution on our oceans and ocean creatures and encourage small scale activism. I do think it’s important for kids to be introduced to all the things that are happening in the world from a younger age, in a way that’s accessible to them, in a way that doesn’t scare them, in a way that doesn’t prove to incite anxiety in them in any way at all. Also, my niece and I did an absolutely adorable 4 minute YouTube book review which you can view below!

Clean Up by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola - Whole - Twinkl

If this produces good results, do the tops and bottom in the same fashion, but move the sandpaper horizontally. Adeola and Bryon’s representation of an authentic, well-drawn black family is welcome in picture books, and especially so in a book about environmental issues, where people of colour have so frequently been in the vanguard of activism. The statistics she quotes must be troubling since she successfully recruits enough folks to clear the beach of all that unsightly trash. She is the sort of human being who is aspirational, she’s inspired by life and if anything, if kids take that away from the books alone, that’s super important. The inclusion of simple facts – this time about marine pollution – alongside adorable heroine Rocket’s lovely family and her dedication and courage to do better for her community makes for a meaningful, relatable read. That said, if the bugs must be bombed, try to ascertain how the book will react before you expose the whole volume to toxic smoke. Perfect for reading to young children to show them not only that they can make a difference but the importance of looking after the world around them.
