It didn't feel as though any real surprises were uncovered; it was pretty much what anyone would have expected from the introduction provided. Clubland is, after all, a place where a sign can read “members are asked not to bring their mistresses to dine at the club, unless they are the wives of other members”. Oh, she's the perfect hostess when people are allowed to come over, but things are never what they seem.

While I can’t say I loved this one, I liked it enough to consider reading another book from this author. I have a younger sister with special needs, and - while to be fair - her welfare is presided over by the state, there are myriad hoops to jump through when it comes to advocacy and guardianship.An avid listener of Agatha Christie audiotapes, Millie has pretended to have a sleeping issue, but has actually been hoarding the pills to then pass along to Grace. It might have been better to have simply 'killed them off' in a freak car accident or cruise disaster, rather than having to reference them intermittently and ever so slightly unbelievably - convenient that they emigrated to New Zealand without much of a glance over their shoulder for the welfare of their eldest daughter at the very least.

As I said above, this is a book that makes you think, I was constantly second guessing Grace trying to think of ways I could get out of her situation but actually when you sat back and thought about it, you really couldn’t. In another book I read two years ago ---One of my personal favorites about two aging Gay men --after WWII --"Hide" by Matthew Griffin", there is a very tragic accident where a dog is killed --but it was 'not' intentional. But she switches from mildly irritated stranger to Grace's best friend and murderous collaborator with no rhyme or reason except for Jack's misdescription of Millie's bedroom colour.
