Astra razor blades are made with the latest technology and quality in mind, they are double edge shaving razor blades with a high chrome vanadium content. All that said, I was really impressed with how sharp and smooth these blades stayed for all 5 shaves. The blade itself just says “ASTRA” across the top of the blade and “SUPERIOR PLATINUM” across the bottom. Here once again, the forgiving nature of the Astra comes in handy, as the angle of a shavette is different to that of a safety razor. The Astra Superior Platinum Blade is a perfect example why every shaver (especially starting out) should try as many blades as they can.

Astra’s are awesome though because the blade is sharp enough to easily shave thick beards and coarse hair, but it does so while being pretty smooth and irritation-free on the skin.While the blade appears to be getting sharper, I don’t feel it would have the required smoothness to keep going. I want to be clear, I still don’t think it was a great shave, but it was noticeably better than the first one and I was reasonably happy about.

So unless you’re an experienced wet shaver that really feels comfortable with a safety razor, I wouldn’t recommend using these. Because the Astra Superior Platinum blades offer both excellent sharpness and smoothness properties, I think these blades are a great option for a wide variety of men. Each blade inside the box is individually wrapped in wax paper to help protect it from the elements as well as make it safer to handle. I personally did not like the Astra Superior Platinum and do not plan to try it again for personal use. Some guys might prefer a sharper razor blade, but I think the vast majority of men can easily shave their beard with the Astra.Astra Blue are known for their smoothness and are used widely amongst the wet shaving community and barbers alike. This seems to be common for coated blades, my hypothesis is that as the coating wears off a bit the blade edge is more exposed. Astra razor blades are top solution for folks who itch to feel confident and smooth skin, the blades have been test and proven to be a first-rate solution for safety and smoothness.
