The interior view is surprisingly clear, and the rear camera footage beats that captured by the Miofive Dual Camera bundle. In our tests, the front camera’s footage was generally good enough in most scenarios. Viofo utilizes Sony Starvis image sensors, which perform well in low-light conditions. The lower resolution does compromise quality in subpar driving situations though, with fuzzy detail putting it behind the best 4K competitors. The interior and rear cameras offer a wide 170-degree field of view, and the interior camera is equipped with six LEDs for infrared capabilities. Only the Miofive 4K Dash Cam and Nextbase 622GW capture clearer, more detailed video, and while compression artefacts are visible in places of high contrast, it’s easy to make out number plates, signs and other crucial details. The 522GW is a massively impressive dash cam, which not only nails the basics (such as recording outstanding image quality), but also offers features never before seen in a dash cam.

Parking protection to record what’s going on around your car can be a bonus, provided you don’t use it in an area where the sight of your dash cam is more likely to get your car broken in to and the dash cam stolen. The use of HDR (high dynamic range) tech helps alleviate the problem of harsh shadows obscuring details like license plates. A detachable polarizing filter helps guard against glare and reflections. And the viewing angle of 161 degrees is wide indeed. You want Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity: The N2 Pro doesn’t have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so transferring video files means removing the microSD card.
