About this deal

FA issues guidance to clubs warning players and staff to take 'extreme caution' when commenting on the Middle East conflict... after a ban on the pro-Palestinian phrase 'from the river to the sea' Manchester United are suffering from 'a real divide between the players and the manager', insists Shay Given, as he suggests 'there are a lot of fallouts behind the scenes' He calls Planchart over to the table: “Carles, tomorrow morning get me a video of the 36th minute – the thing you mentioned to me. I want to show the centre-half how better to position himself.” Drinkwater opens up on 2019 arrest for drink-driving and reveals he would 'get with any bird I could' on boozy nights out in London during troubled Chelsea spell Guillem Balague clearly interviewed subjects at length for this book but I found it troublesome his habit of quoting at length ( and apparently verbatim ) long tracts of dialogue that had apparently occured some years before - this worried me as it felt like revisionsism to a certain extent.

No, I hadn’t noticed any of that. Pep is blessed with an almost photographic memory which allows him to remember and analyse everything that has happened in the match. In this he resembles Rafa Nadal, a tennis star capable of recalling every shot and every point of his matches, his level of dominance or the error he or his opponent made and which moment was most significant. And all of this remains with him long after the match is over. Similarly, Guardiola remembers every move: how it developed, what happened, which players got involved and what the consequences were. On the other hand, he pays no attention to stats. Laura Woods says Man United boss Erik ten Hag had her 'living out my worst nightmare' live on TV in awkward touchline moment Perhaps my favourite part of the book is when on top of having learned from being managed by top coaches such as Cruyff, Robson, Van Gaal, Mazzone, and Capello, before taking the job as a coach Guardiola still travels around Argentina to learn a lot from coaching legends Ricardo La Volpe, César Luis Menotti, and of course the fabled meeting with Marcelo Bielsa where he spent 11 hours in Bielsa’s villa and came out of it bringing a book full of notes from cover to cover. My other favourite part of the book is at the very last chapter when Pep talked on Catalan radio in memory of Johan Cruyff that has just recently died, which reveals a lot about Pep’s footballing philosophy that is heavily influenced by Cruyff’s way of thinking. yy Spanish Copa del Rey x 2 (2009, 2012) yy English EFL Cup x 2 (2018, 2019) yy Spanish Supercopa de España x 3 (2009, 2010, 2011) England's Tom Curry accuses South Africa's Bongi Mbonambi of calling him a 'white c***' in the Rugby World Cup semi-final with alleged slur caught on ref's mic

I grew a lot with Pep as a player and learnt a great deal from him. Some managers are superb tacticians, but Pep would also describe the moves you had to make on the pitch and what would happen then. And it did!" (Lionel Messi) “He is a genius who reads the game and covers every situation imaginable. He is always showing us how to create space and find solutions and there is no manager like him, which makes him probably the best in the world." (Ilkay Gündoğan) “There is one thing you can be sure of — he wants to dominate. People associate his teams with the number of goals they score but his teams also don’t concede a lot. He always wants to be on the front foot, having the ball, possession, and he wants to dominate." (Thierry Henry) “I have learned a lot from Pep. He’s a genius. I can learn more from him in an hour than from others in one year. He not only lifts you to the next level on the pitch, but also in your mind. He has revealed totally new options to me. I did not know that was possible when I got to Munich. He found a new position for me." (Douglas Costa) “He is an incredible coach on a completely different level in terms of tactics. He really helps players develop and he even helped me improve at the age of 30." (Phillip Lahm) The book also illustrate the difficulties of managing star players and their inflated egos, especially when there are more than 1 star competing for the same spots, as well as the difficulties of transferring Pep’s philosophy onto several rigid or entitled players. And it also portrays a vivid picture of the pressure that football managers constantly receive from the fans, the club hierarchies, and the media.Micah Richards reveals how he downed TEN drinks from a minibar the night before a Man City game - and tried to talk his way out of playing SIMON JORDAN: In a modern game populated by nation states and billionaires, there should always be a place for people like Blue Bill

Player C passes wide and high up the flank for A's long curved run around the mannequin. Source: Pep Guardiola's training sessions from Barcelona B team (2007-08) While the football stories are fantastic, I actually learn a lot more from the way Guardiola conduct himself. From his discipline, intellect, and respect for others, to the way he carry himself in many different situations, to how he meticulously planning ahead of the opportunities and risks, how he revamp the club to embody his footballing philosophy (even arranging different lunch seating all the time to ensure no small groups formed within the squad), down to practicing the small specific moves after analysing the opponent and/or the situation. Lessons that can be implemented in many other areas of life. While I was reading the book, Pep - at last - announced that he is coming to England. Now we know he will coach Manchester City FC next season and carry that club's hopes and dreams but what is most important is that he will bring his idiosyncratic "tiki-taka" playing style to a country caught in what I would say is a footballing crisis.

I was a great admirer of the Barcelona team of 2008-2012 and what they achieved under Pep Guardiola's leadership and I was interested to gain some insight from this book as to what went on behoind the scenes to deliver such a dominant force over that period.
