About this deal

Please note - Immediately upon receipt of the caterpillars, you will need to distribute the food and caterpillars between the vials, instructions on how to do this are included. If you should receive more than 33 caterpillars, any remaining may stay and develop in the cup they arrived in. This “cup of caterpillars” is a small kit that includes five baby caterpillars. The grubs are shipped along with food for safe transit. Weather conditions generally determine when the best time to release butterflies is. Release butterflies into your garden when the temperature is between 60°F and 65°F (16°C – 18°C), the sun is shining, and there’s no wind. If the butterflies are a day old, then some slight rain won’t hurt them. Whether you have bought a kit in the past or you are eager to grow your own butterflies from caterpillars without a kit it’s really easy as well. Growing up it was something that my parents did with us as a child as at the time there weren’t kits available instead we “created our own” and set up the observation net on our nature table. Equipment Needed to Raise your Own Butterflies

Most kits come with a mesh pop-up tent to house the caterpillars and butterflies. This is an awesome cage! We have used it for many other things, including lightning bugs and other cool insects we want to spend a little time with. SUGGESTION - before you use it, place a paper plate in the bottom of it to help it stay clean. Those cute little caterpillers poop A LOT and so do the butterflies. More importantly, when the butterflies first emerge from their chrysalis, their wings drip a red liquid called meconium. It is the leftover metabolic waste from the caterpillar and can stain the mesh housing. The birth of the butterfly? After 7 -14 days the chrysalides will darken and you will be able to see the colours of the butterflies through the shell. As the butterfly emerges, it will rest while pumping its wings to full size. After 1 or 2 hours the wings will be full sized and hard and the butterfly is ready to fly. Now you can decorate the inside of your Pavilion or Garden with flowers, twigs & leaves. You can keep your butterflies for 2 – 3 days feeding them sugar solution (sugar and water) or fruit before releasing them in your garden.Wild wishes that your hungry caterpillars turn into beautiful, brilliant butterflies!
