About this deal

Regardless of whether you’re signed into the Aqara app or not (HomeKit Mode), you can still add this device, and it will also appear as a device in the Aqara Home app once added. It will also be exposed to HomeKit and the Home app as normal. To access light reading data, or to create automations in the Aqara app, you will need to be signed into the app though. Once signed in, you can simply tap on the icon for the sensor, and a window will drop down halfway showing a chart for light readings in daily or weekly format. this window can be fully dragged down to make it fill the screen. One of the best uses of an open/close sensor is to turn on a light when a door is opened and turn it off when it closes. This can work brilliantly in an attic or cupboard where you’ve got a light. There’s no reason why you can’t build similar controls using alternative systems, such as HomeKit or SmartThings, turning lights on automatically when motion is detected.

Some also come with a feature called 'pet immunity,' which is exactly what it sounds like. They shouldn't alert you if they detect movement from smaller beings in your home, and there's usually a maximum size noted (the Ecolink Z-Wave Plus Motion Detector claims immunity to movement from pets as large as 55lbs, for example). As already stated, this device is HomeKit compatible, so whichever way you decide to add this, it will show up in the Home app, as well as third-party apps, like Eve for HomeKit, for example. In the Home app, the device is represented with just the one tile and one service, as expected. The tile will show the current Lux reading, and this reading is also shown in the first splash screen after you long press on the tile to access the settings. In terms of settings themselves, you’ll notice there’s no option to add it to a scene as such, and you can’t use it in any automations in Home, as light readings are still not supported in this app. They are supported in third-party apps, however, and as you can see above, I’m able to use the light readings from the sensor as a trigger for an automation in the Eve app. Improve home automation systems by integrating a ZIGBEE smart switch from our stunning Sunricher range. A ZigBee Sensor (or switch) is a ZIGBEE device that can be controlled by a ZigBee hub or controller. This will allow you to control a connected light by turning it on or off through your smart home devices. But they have the problem that they take between 60 and 150 seconds to detect movement again, so I must have the lights on during that time if I do not want to stay in the dark in case of passing twice in that period of time.

4. Monitor for potential environmental problems

There are some simple rules to follow, though. First, don’t use motion sensors in areas where you want to turn off lights. For example, in a living room, you may want the lights off to watch a film, whereas a motion sensor would turn them on automatically. Secondly, be careful of where you place the motion sensor, as you don’t want it to go off if, say, a pet walks past it: mount a motion sensor higher on the wall to avoid this problem. SmartHomeBeast.com is a leading online destination for all things related to home automation and smart products. Through an automation in home assistant, when the state of the switch (ZBMINI) changes, the lights will turn on / off. I've found a number of posts here in the community forums but the sensors that I've tried to find seem to not be around anymore. Most motion sensors have an adjustable sensitivity. In researching motion sensors, you might come across something called PIR. This stands for passive infrared sensor, which detect warm bodies as they pass by. Other types of motion sensors include MW (Microwave), which bounces microwave pulses off objects; ultrasonic waves; vibration, which is a little less accurate and more prone to false positives; and sometimes a combination of more than one type.

If you’ve got a dumb alarm system, smart sensors can provide a way of enhancing your alarm. Place smart open/close sensors on your windows and doors, for example, and you can have an alert sent to your phone. You could also trigger lights to turn on to scare off a burglar. When placed around a living space, these low-profile wireless devices are able to detect specific activities, like movement, temperature, or the opening or closing of a door. Then they tell other smart devices how to react—smart lights, plugs, speakers, thermostats, and so on—all in an instant, and without requiring any direct commands or effort from you. Some detect just one activity, while others are multitaskers. Install one and you might solve a single problem—add a bunch and you’re on your way to having a home that runs on autopilot. It's a little more expensive, but it's also better looking than most other motion sensors out there, if a little "Eye-of-Sauron". It also detects temperature and vibration.

Our team of experts had nothing but high praise for this model. Centralite is one of the most well-known names in the SmartHome industry, and the Micro Motion Sensor has proven to be an incredible addition to the Centralite line.
