With trembling paws, Sammy began to climb up the trunk of the tree. His friends cheered him on from below as he made his way higher and higher until finally reaching one of the lower branches. Though they only talk to each other one time in the script, Hammy is seen around Heather's company somewhat often, so it can be assumed that they're friends of some caliber. This isn't conveyed very well, though. Once upon a time, in a forest far away, there was a little squirrel named Sammy. He loved playing with his friends all day long but there was one thing that scared him more than anything else - climbing trees! Sammy knew he needed to collect nuts for the winter but every time he tried to climb a tree, he would get too scared and run away. From then on out Sammy continued practicing climbing trees until soon enough this once-fearful squirrel became an expert climber! In the short film "Hammy's Boomerang Adventure", RJ hosts his own show called "RJ's Wide World of Nature". He and the porcupine kids sneak up on Hammy and secretly expose him to a boomerang to see how he behaves with it.

Aside from Lou and Penny's kids, he's the smallest member of the family, and very skinny. His fur is red-orange with white on his front and face, but his hands and feet are a darker brown.
