About this deal

For readers who are fond of non-fiction literature, this is a must-read. Caution should be taken as the graphic details of what happened to Georgia may be triggering to some readers. Another drag for me was the constant rehashing of how the courts, police, probation, therapists, etc failed them. The first mention was enough, then there was the report itself, then a constant rehashing of how they failed to keep Georgia safe. To lie, deceive and place the blame on everyone but themselves. This naturally just made them look even worse. This was a case that took over the British headlines at the time due to its detail and severity and the fact that even when your father is a high-ranking member of the police force, and you are murdered, his employers are not immune or averse to lying to you, either.

The same force, Steve and Lynnette discovered, had had Reynolds in its sights for years before Georgia’s murder, but let him slip their net.

Who is Jamie Reynolds?

We still have nightmares,” says Lynnette. “One of us will wake the other up at night screaming. We help each other through them. I relive the day as soon as I wake up or when I try to sleep. I feel drained most of the time, it’s on your mind constantly. It never goes away.” Some memoirs about dead or missing loved ones tend to gloss over the details and make their child, friend, neighbor, or other family member sound like a saint. Not this book. While Georgia is described as a loving and trusting person, she's also made to seem like a real human being (which she was), flaws and all, making what happened to her hurt even more. Having Georgia's mother as the author, imbues this book with a special gravitas. Those of us who are mothers and fathers can only imagine how devastating losing a child is, and losing a child to murder is unimaginable. To have that loss compounded by the realization that her death could have, and should have, been avoided. Our Georgia by Robin Eveleigh & Lynette Williams is a true crime book that tells the story of Georgia Williams, a young woman from Wellington, Shropshire, who was brutally murdered by a friend in 2013. The book provides an in-depth look into Georgia's life before her tragic death and the events that led up to her murder.

At first, I thought the book was just a typical true crime story, but as I got further into it, I found myself getting more and more emotionally invested in Georgia's story. However, it was easy to forget that it was a true story as I found myself being swept away by the amazing life she led up until that fateful day. The authors do an excellent job of portraying Georgia as a real person with hopes, dreams, and a bright future ahead of her. It is truly heartbreaking to think about what she went through and what her family must have endured. I've never read a book like this before - a brutal crime and its consequences told by the mother of a victim. The style is almost conversational and Lynette's voice comes through clearly. I can hear her Welsh accent in the words (no idea if she has one but that's what I heard in my head while reading). The 67-year-old added: “They say time heals, but it doesn’t. You just get used to living with the pain. Settling a compensation claim out of court in 2016 – a week before the third anniversary of Georgia’s murder – West Mercia Police admitted it breached its obligation to “protect life” under the Human Rights Act.

Who was Georgia Williams?

Before I make any comments that might make anyone think I don't feel for this family, let me just say that I can't imagine the grief and anger they have experienced, and, in fact, a couple of the issues I have are ones I am not sure I would have avoided if I had been in her shoes. So my comments aren't about what she experienced but how something that horrific can understandably shade all thought about the subject. Georgia Williams was killed on May 26, 2103, after she was lured to the home of college pal Jamie Reynolds. She thought she was helping him with a photoshoot, instead, the scenario was horrifyingly real. I was never going to be able to help out with a wedding or christening,” says Lynnette. “I just wanted to do the best I possibly could for her.” Georgia was planning a career in the RAF when her parents waved her off from the family home in Telford, Shropshire. If you have any interest in True Crime and/or any interest in police and policing, this book must be added to your library.
