About this deal

Once your water butt is full, there's no need to be concerned about water overflow. The system is designed to seamlessly direct excess water down the drainpipe, ensuring that the rainwater collection process is hassle-free and self-regulating.

Using this greywater is relatively simple, you can either syphon it directly from the bath or sink or you can fit a valve to the external waste pipe allowing you to direct the water to a water butt, so it can be used as needed to water the flowerbed. If the greywater is inadequately treated, then this could contaminate the groundwater which would have adverse impacts on animal and plant life. Greywater with food debris in it needs to be treated anaerobically using a septic tank (see treating domestic sewage for details on how a septic tank works). The water that comes out of the other end of the septic tank can then be treated with the soilbox filter or using wetlands as mentioned above. 4. Mechanical filters (for using the water to flush toilets) Manufactured in the UK using recycled material, this water butt kit from Harcostar contains everything you will need to start your water conservation journey, including a stand and a universal rain trap and easy to follow instructions.

What is greywater?

It is not recommended to use greywater on fruit or crops, since there is a chance the plant will ingest the harmful pathogens when they are watered. 2. Biological Systems (non-food debris)

These Automatic Solar Powered Watering Systems are weather responsive smart irrigation controllers which uniquely use solar power to detect the weather conditions to alter the watering accordingly. Did you know that a water butt could save you bout 30,000 million litres of water every summer, enough to fill an entire reservoir.

How does greywater recycling work?

Water butts usually sit close to a wall, so do choose one that won't take up too much space or be in the way of any doors or windows. Water butts are a completely free way of harvesting rainwater, thus helping to keep your water bills down. This is especially beenficial if you are on a water meter, and need to be conservative eith the amount of water you are using. On average, spraying plants with water uses 4-6 litres per day. That adds up over time! The greywater can also be treated using more expensive mechanical filters, such as microfiltration systems using membranes. We have looked at this in more detail in harvesting rainwater – so please look there for more information. Uses for treated greywater Using greywater for flushing toilets
