About this deal

I bought this pedal for a covers gig of mainly marshall style guitar music. My amp is a Swart Atomic Space Tone Pro (6V6 tubes) and I wanted to get a mix of low gain to cranked Marshall sounds from it - it's a great amp but will not do the marshall thing by itself. I tried using a Sansamp GT2 which I had lying around but it just wasn't getting me there - far too scooped with no way near enough midrange. A vintage-voiced Marshall distortion pedal that sounds organic and not too colored in a way where you can engage it and feel like you’re just using the 2nd channel of your amp. A full but natural-sounding high gain pedal with smooth high end and tight low end. Delivers hunky drive at lower gain settings and singing lead tones. Therefore, strictly speaking, JCM amps don’t belong to the Plexi family, but since their circuits are very similar we decided to include them in this article

This is a very responsive Plexi-sounding pedal that has tons of gain on tap but still fairs equally well on low gain settings and high gain settings. At this price, you could buy two and still have plenty of space on your pedalboard. As far as the build goes, the La Grange is easily a top-of-the-line pedal, inside and out; impressively sturdy with a look and feel that resonates high-quality through and through. It should easily last years of consistent use and take the occasional drop without much issue. Housed inside its tough exterior, the pedal consists of several high-grade components throughout, including German WIMA and Japanese Nichicon capacitors, double-sided gold-plated circuit boards, gold-plated relays, Carling switches and more. If that all sound like jargon to you, suffice it to say that Bogner didn’t cut corners when building the La Grange. The LPD Pedal is comprised of 2 complete Eighty7 pedals in single enclosure each with 3-Band EQ, Green and Red Modes + shared universal Presence control and internal individual Bright switches. The drive's charter and level of gain are set by the viscosity and opacity of liquids placed in its lidded bowl-like chamber. The pedal itself has only the single Volume control and footswitch - all other tonal characteristics are derived from the liquid/s employed. If you take a look at the La Grange and compare the front panel to the other Bogner pedals you will notice a lot of similarities but inside there are plenty of differences. On the top you have all of the controls you would normally find on an amplifier with Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass and Gain as well as a separate Boost Volume control. By designing the pedal like an amplifier premp it lets you get a lot closer to the sound of the real amp.An affordable mini-pedal that nails the JCM 800 tone and offers a good amount of sculpting options through the Tone and Presence knobs. caption id="attachment_5883" align="alignleft" width="950"] The beauty of the La Grange comes from its masterful tonal response and versatile set of powerful controls.[/caption]

An LED light turns: green when the preamp is on, red when the Plexi-style drive is on, and yellow when they are both on. This things cleans up really well with the guitar volume knob and there's a huge about of volume and gain on tap with the Boost circuit engaged, which I found great for solos and actually gives that early Angus lead sound. Personally found the Variac mode a little saggy for my taste. The Swart, when pushed already has enough sag so not required for me.The Bogner La Grange is equipped with 5 control knobs, allowing players to shape their ideal sound. There is a Boost control, which lets players adjust the volume level of the independent Boost function, as well as a footswitch for engaging the boost for added volume. The Volume knob enhances the pedal's overall projection, whilst the Tone control adjusts the colouration of the effect and the Gain increases the overall intensity of the effect. The Channel Blend knob alters the mix of the two different channels, which simulate those of a 67-69 plexi amplifier. Fine Tune Your Sound With 4 Switches The La Grange pedal is powered by a standard 9V battery or 9VDC regulated power supply. Reinhold’s advanced circuitry internally elevates the voltage to a substantially higher level. The higher voltage provides a greater dynamic range which closely resembles the feel of a real amplifier; therefore running the pedal above 9VDC will not improve dynamics and even can damage the circuit, therefore only use a regulated 9VDC power supply! A two-channel Plexi pedal with a clean boost on one side and a Marshall JTM45 emulation on the other, using transistors to mimic the character of the tubes. Each channel features its own footswitch, and a toggle switch lets you place the boost before or after the overdrive. A tone knob, placed in the overdrive circuit, lets you tweak the signal EQ to your liking. Premium construction with double sided gold-plated circuit boards, German WIMA & Japanese Nicicon Capacitors and Carling footswitches This NAMM starring delight is obviously to a large degree a novelty sort of pedal, but now one entirely without merits.

Trusted ShopsA Marshall-style drive with a few more EQ controls than usual, with a 3-way EQ section where the Mids knob doesn’t boost but only cuts, a Presence knob, and two toggle switches to boost the highs or cut the lows. The bass switch delivers Plexi tones in the lower position and JTM45-style ones in the top setting. An internal DIP allows for extra frequency tweaking to fine-tune the pedal to any amp.

This is the second derivative of this format after the initial RevivalTrem pedal - which was the first Origin Effect to combine drive/preamp and modulation in the same unit. This time around the pedal is dedicated towards replicating the Magnatone Amp's output with that lovely Vintage Vibrato modulation. It has a 12AX7 tube inside of it to give you the “real deal” kind of distortion. This pedal sounds really rich and beefy with a lot of range for you to play with in the mids department. The tonal shaping options can be a bit excessive at first but with this remarkable unit you can really go from boomy to scooped mid distortion and anything in between. I did not use Alex' Vero layout but build my own because I wanted the voltage converters off the board and also run a few components off board to make pot wiring easier and get a smaller Vero footprint. One of the things I changed is to run a wire from the source of the first BS170 to the center lug of the SPDT Gain Switch and then ran the 100R and the 1 K from the other two lugs directly, off board, to a ground rail. I did the same with the 470n and the 47u on the Blend knob and initially the 47R and the 2M2 from the gain knob, but I took these out again later as they do not serve much of a purpose. I prefer the sound of this to the RevivalTrem edition as this has slightly richer and more lively dynamics to my ear. A very dynamic FET-based Plexi-style overdrive that can be used also as a clean boost at lower drive settings. It features a flexible three-band EQ section with a toggle switch to set the center frequency of the Mids knob (from low-mid to high-mid).If you do buy the Asabi - then you can switch out the distortion circuit - which is a JCM800 variety by default. To date there is just one other Module available - the Rat-style Large Mouse. Which is interesting, as one of the JCM800-side voicings is referenced as Rat-Style. Reinhold designed the La Grange pedal with an op-amp input, followed by five discrete Class A gain stages and incorporated Germanium diode clipping. This approach minimizes the input noise floor while retaining touch sensitivity and clarity throughout the entire gain range. Employs hand-selected discrete JFETs to create a unique blend of Plexi and Marshall-style tones, based on the Marshall 1987 Silver Jubilee amp. Variac On/Off switch: adds a “dropped voltage” dynamic compression to the feel and sound for that illusive Brown sound A pedal that responds well with a clean amp and gives you a classic distortion sound at a low price.
