About this deal

Right at the top, there are plenty of sounds from the metal parts of the drum kit but they’re not sounds we particularly enjoy. The treble notes are unsophisticated and the tweeter sounds too messy. The hi-hats, the snares and the cymbals are hard to differentiate, which rather spoils the pleasure of Bill Berry’s work. As well as working brilliantly with your TV, the Audio Pro A28 speakers are fantastic with music. Compatible with Spotify Connect (premium account required) and TIDAL Connect, they blend seamlessly with your favourite music service. Using cloud-based streaming, a vast array of music is always close to hand. The Audio Pro A28 is an ultra-compact two-way speaker with built-in streaming and multi-room functionality. In fact, they’re even smaller than the legendary compact Rogers LS3/5A. The speakers come as a stereo set, with all the electronics built into the left speaker, while the right connects to it with a cable. It’s impressive that you can get a set of speakers with built-in amplifier, streaming and multiroom for that kind of money. (Foto: Audio Pro) Flad dynamik

With so many Internet radio stations, podcasts and playlists to choose from, the A28 features five handy presets. At the touch of a button on the remote, you can recall your favourite music and podcasts in an instant. The Audio Pro app itself is a little rudimentary compared to some, but also fairly well thought out. It's responsive and not over-complicated, which is important if you’re using the A26 as part of a larger Audio Pro multi-room set-up. The bookshelf A28 and floorstanding A38 also support the hi-fi company’s updated multiroom streaming platform, so they can be matched with Audio Pro’s own speakers as well as joined with other AirPlay 2 and Google Cast speakers adding to their flexibility within the home. HDMI, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth connections are also supported. The first impression of the Audio Pro A28 is really positive. Although much smaller than shoeboxes, they provide a well-rounded and warm sound more reminiscent of a ‘real’ stereo system than a pair of small multi-room speakers.

Specification

The audio is still centred on where the speakers sit, but there’s enough to get a clear idea of positioning of the first violin in the foreground and the rest of the string section behind and to the right.

Compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast and Audio Pro’s own multi-room systems, the A28’s are supremely flexible. Use the dedicated Audio Pro system app and you can even incorporate old Bluetooth-only Audio Pro Addon speakers*, by using an A-series or C-series product as a parent speaker. (*Audio Pro ADDON Link 1 required for function support). There is a straightforward EQ control in the form of bass and treble sliders, although these are generally best left flat. There’s also an audio virtualiser mode to help create a soundstage especially for movie-watching and a night mode to enhance dialogue clarity while keeping the main volume and bass as low as possible. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)Having tested the Audio Pro A28 a short time ago, the experience of the A38 was familiar. In many ways, it sounds like its little brother – but with a little more of everything. We start with Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.3 In G Major, K.216, and get an immediate feel for the space and scale that this two-speaker solution offers. There’s an impression of openness with a soundstage that’s broad enough to deliver a strong sense of the orchestra. With a wide range of connections, including HDMI ARC, the Audio Pro A28 speakers comfortably sit at the heart of your system. Just as impressively, multiple streaming options and three-system multiroom compatibility make these Audio Pro active speakers perfect for all your music options, too. If you’re in need of extra bass, both the A28 and A38 have a subwoofer output so you can connect one that fits your needs or room requirements (or choose one of Audio Pro’s own).

The Audio Pro A28 is a speaker system that gives you a lot for very little money. With streaming, multi-room and plenty of inputs, you get a complete little stereo system. Just add a mobile and a streaming subscription and you’re good to go. The trouble is that they just don’t sound that great. If a pair of speakers doesn’t make you excited about listening to music, they have fallen short in their primary purpose. Featuring HDMI ARC and optical inputs, the A28s effortlessly link up with your TV and games console or Blu-ray/DVD player. The HDMI ARC control means you can use your TV’s remote to change the volume – maximising ease of use.

Do I want Active or Wireless? I'm not sure. I'm working from home and listening to Spotify all day on a Sony RDP XF300ip (40w, 150 - 10000 Hz, Drivers are 25 mm, 76 mm). I would like something which sounds significantly better which can also play Spotify Connect (so I can use my phone while music plays) and radio. Swedish Audio Pro has more than 40 years of experience in building active speakers for home use. We have tested many, and very often with good results. These Audio Pros aren’t a bad pair of wireless speakers –they are easy to set up; they can work for both your music and your TV sound; and they are capable of working in a multi-room set-up. They support just about every kind of input and you can use pretty much any music streaming service with them. If you’re already heavily invested in the Audio Pro ecosystem, you might wish to try them out, but we’d advise you to spend your money elsewhere and buy something more musically talented, such as the Ruark Audio MR1 Mk2s.

As the Audio Pro A38 is a floorstanding speaker, that part of the placement consideration is decided in advance. But including the base, each speaker takes up less floor space than an A4 sheet of paper. The Audio Pro A28 active speakers are so talented, you might want to rethink the need for a soundbar.

nopiano said:I haven’t, but I’m a satisfied user of the previous generation of portable wireless speaker, the Allroom Air One. Unfortunately I have come across the occasional dud in a range. (Foto: Audio Pro) Basically, there’s what there should be: the bass is deep enough (assisted by the electronics), and voices come across nicely and openly in the soundstage. There’s also a quite reasonable sense of space behind and to either side of the speakers. Lydkvaliteten
