Retrieved September 16, 2016. Holding aloft its new baby, SEGA proudly stormed the gates of EG towers (we do have towers now - did you see the press release?) to give us a hands-on with a near-complete 360 build of the game, currently looking good for a mid-March release on about 97 platforms. Okay, five: 360, PS3, Wii, DS and (uhuh) PS2. "No PSP or PC?" you cry. "Where's the love?" That's meant to be a tennis joke.

Each of the 16 characters has a special superstar alter-ego. These super abilities give them the winning edge on the court.

Amigo: Power type - His Superstar state, Maraca Madness, makes his shots curve at wild angles and lay down three maracas on the opponents court. If the opponent touches these they start dancing uncontrollably. Super Smash Bros. SEGA Superstars Tennis News

In an effort to establish some context, I think it's important to note that I love both Mario Tennis and Virtua Tennis – and for two entirely different reasons. Mario Tennis for its colorful presentation and speedy, responsive controls and Virtua Tennis for its realistic visuals and deep controls, not to mention the strategy that's buried within. And yet, seemingly against all the odds, I don't love SEGA Superstars Tennis and this is because it teeters somewhere in the middle of the two, excelling neither at being an arcade game of tennis nor a simulation. And also because despite all of the colorful mascots featured in the game, it still feels sterile – really short on charm and charisma. Beat: Speed type - His Superstar state, Graffiti Floor, spray paints grafitti on the opponents side of the court causing them to slip when trying to move. Additionally Beat's shots shoot at erratic angles, and a GG member appears to grind across the net with a boombox. Ulala: Control type - Her Superstar state, Morolian Invasion, makes the ball travel in the shape of a '5' and makes Morolians appear on the opponents court, dancing. If the opponent touches a Morolian they start dancing uncontrollably. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions both have online play, while the Wii version has three different control schemes (motion control, Wii Remote sideways, and Wii Remote with Nunchuk). The Nintendo DS version of the game can be played with , or utilize the stylus. Between the HD version and the Wii version visual-wise, the models in the latter are of low quality, making the spectators' limbs jagged (mostly Silver and Blaze's). The lighting on the models overall, including the models, especially when doing special poses, are likewise very poor. Also, whereas the shot balls have yellow trails on the HD version, the shot balls on the Wii version display specific trails (yellow, blue, green) depending on its power.
