About this deal

But then, the following day, it changed its mind, and gave the intriguing answer that the model can represent either a Primaris or a Firstborn marine, depending on your preference: October’s issue brings gifts from the gods to the primordial Seraphon in the form of a battletome update, including rules for matched play and Path to Glory. This final mystery– of when the full range will actually hit shelves – willlikely persist for some while yet, but we’ll keep this guide updated as soon as we glean any further truths through the fog of war.

I’m not a regular Warhammer 40,000 player anymore but the rules seem solid here, nothing broken but not too weak either. The army are close combat beasts and the newly improved High Marshal Helbrecht helps show that off. Look at his revamped Sword of the High Marshals! All characters and close combat units are so good when they’re in your opponent’s face. Just three Secondary Objectives here, all with suitably death metal names – exemplified by the first, Bathe Your Blade in the Blood of Your Foe. Sitting in Purge the Enemy, this works identically to the Blood Angels’ Blade of Sanguinius, letting you set up the kind of Warlord fight which is normally a bad idea in the competitive arena but can be a good idea if you think your guy is going to win and score 15pts for doing so. So far, those revealed include the Holy Orb (a one-time mortal wound-dealing perfume hand grenade which, like its predecessor in the 4th Edition codex, is a direct reference to the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and the Icon of Heinmann, which cancels out most weapons’ AP to make one of your Sergeants or Sword Brethren a chunk more survivable.

The Emperor’s Champion is super dope with enough open space where you can really let your painting skill show through. Then when you get into the box it is all pretty organized and comes with another little art piece to help protect the box. Instructions & Sprues Plus from the looks of this, there are two close combat weapon options, an ax, and sword, plus a combi-flamer option to go along with the plasma pistol. Also among these Relics is the Icon of Heinmann. This symbol carried into battle by the late Castellan Heinmann represents his stubbornness in the face of utter defeat. On the tabletop, it reduces incoming Armour Penetration, allowing bearers of your Relics to shrug off armour penetration. Overall this probably didn’t sell as good as GW wanted but it does have some big things for design inside. So as always, if it has value to you, then grab it, if not, then don’t. Get Your Own Box Here!

Auto-plasmas and auto-flamers, incidentally, are exactly what they sound like – combi-weapons that combine an auto bolt rifle with a plasma gun or flamer. These are just the regular kind, no fancy Primaris versions.

Other Units of Note

In the revealed photos, the squad has been built with five Initiates, four Neophytes, and one Power Sword-armed Sword Brother. We don’t yet know whether the Crusader Squad in the army set (or the inevitable future standalone set) can be built with a different ratio of Initiates to Neophytes – but bear in mind that the unit will probably retain some version of the current Paired Combatants rule – meaning Neophytes gain a buff if there are more Initiates in the squad than Neophytes. The Marshal is also super detailed with so much going on, but again, not so much you can’t show off your skills. Final Thoughts Hefting a customised combi-flamer and Power Axe, and modelled directly from theskull-shoulderedTemplar character in the middle ground of John Blanche’s famous artwork described above, this Castellan miniature is perhaps the Templariest Templar model GW has created. My first impression of the book is that it’s really cool. Templars have had a bit of a twilight existence in 40k, sometimes getting their own full Codex and sometimes being Sir Not Appearing In This Wargame, and the Supplement model feels like it’s a natural fit for them, letting all their cool stuff be foregrounded at once.
