About this deal

And of course, theres a selection of embroidery stitch instructions with step-by-step photos as well. We’d love for you to become a Sustain My Craft Habit insider to receive fun freebies! Making Felt Birds

If you want a book to help you sew felt into beautiful birds... look no further!! The clear photographs and instructions are just so easy to follow. This book would be a lovely present and you could give the person a few felt squares, some thread and let them start creating right away!! Love it!! Finally, to make the tail, simply roll some wool on the needle (the part that has barbs). Slide the needle up and down to tangle the wool and bind them together. Be careful when you do this and don’t get your finger into the needle. I have a card template of the bird which I trace around onto the felt with a water soluble fabric marking pen. Techniques and stitches used are illustrated with excellent photographs and easy to follow instructions. The hand drawn illustrations add a personal touch to the book. Full size templates are included for each project. How long does the ribbon need to be? You choose. I prefer to have just a small loop of ribbon on the top of my ornaments. If I need to hang my felt ornament on a tree with its bulky branches, then I can thread twine through the loop and tie it on or use wire hangers which do the job discretely. You may prefer to have a long loop and you may prefer to use cord or twine instead of ribbon.

Needle felt birds: Sewing on a brooch pin (all patterns)

Most of the time, I can gently push pieces of stuffing in with my fingers. To help fill out narrow sections such as the tail and beak, you may find it helpful to use some blunt ended tweezers or an embossing stylus with a round ball head. If you use tools to help, just push gently so you don't ruin any stitching. Leave a small margin (3-5mm is great) and start to sew around the edge of the bird. I like to start from the bottom middle because this will leave me an easy section to sew at the end once I start stuffing the plush. Felt fabric: We used white for the bird, and red to create a base for the ornament, and green for the olive branch. Then grab the color of felt you want to make it. We used white, but gray, beige or any light color would look great. We also used green for the olive branch. Step 1: Cut out the Pattern Pieces

This is a book to make you smile. A clever use of simple embroidery stitches such as fly, seed, chain and French knots are used effectively to give each of the birds their individual characters. Enjoy this beginner sewing project which makes up a small and simple bird design. I've turned this into an ornament which can be hung on a tree, a display stand or on the wall. The projects in the book are all darling! And the instructions are excellent and very accessible. If you enjoy making things and you like birds, folk art, and felt, this book would be right up your alley! Im pretty sure it will put a smile on your face! Every aspect of instruction is presented in very clear, step-by-step photos with text. The text is succinct quite minimal; its very precise and easy to follow. Place the heart-shaped felt onto the egg with the bottom of the heart pointing to the bottom of the egg. Needle felt it in place. Once this has all be laid out for you, there follows 20 easy to make colourful birds which are so pleasing to the eye! I particularly like the use of sequins on the pigeon to add texture and shimmer. The information provided throughout the book is clearly presented and well illustrated. Each fun project should be achievable for anyone with a basic knowledge of stitch and embroidery.
