About this deal

Each type of mattress also varies by comfort grade, from soft to very firm support. Every comfort grade has its advantages, and the right one for you depends on your personal preferences but also your favoured sleeping position. We know sleep is highly subjective, but our goal at the Test Lab is to help take the guesswork out of your sleep journey to lull you into your best-slept self. We’ve found that most people who sleep on their side prefer foam, memory foam, or hybrid mattresses. Side sleepers are prone to developing pressure points at their hips and shoulders, making it difficult to sleep or triggering next-day aches and pains. As you can see, the Bear Elite Hybrid produced considerably less pressure than the average hybrid mattress on all body parts in every sleeper position. This is clearly the result of its closely conforming foam layers, and suggests most sleepers will find the Elite Hybrid comfortable.

Finally, TheraPur mattresses use ActiGel, which is a support layer exclusive to TheraPur; this features an open cell structure to mould to your shape while maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the night. What mattress size should I get?

We test temperature regulation by placing a heating element on the mattress for an extended period of time, and then using a heat gun to measure how much heat (°F) the mattress retains over 5 minutes. The graph below shows how the Winkbed performed compared to the rest of the beds we’ve tested. Do you already have a bed frame? This will need to match your new mattress. If you're get-ting a new bed as well, don't forget to include the additional size of that in your measurements too! Breathability is another strong point of the Leesa Sapira Hybrid. The ventilated foam and coil system promote airflow to cool down the interior, resulting in a comfortable surface temperature. Extra coil reinforcement along the edges also makes the mattress feel stable, allowing you and your partner to move across the surface with relative ease. Unless you like your bed very firm, you won’t be disappointed by the Relyon. This is a very comfortable mattress to sleep on. Its motion isolation technology is particularly impressive, meaning that I didn’t notice my partner move in the night and vice versa.

It’s because this, in various ways, shows the current state of the art. Most hybrid mattresses have one or two thousand springs and a few layers of differently-composed foams. This has 8,500 springs, five layers of foam and three layers of temperature-controlling natural materials. You could call it overkill, but once you’ve slept on the Ultra you do start to see the other hybrids as works-in-progress. If you can afford it, it’s worth going for the cutting edge. The Leesa Sapira Hybrid begins with a top layer composed of aerated polyfoam intended to circulate air near the surface, with a solid memory foam layer beneath. The mixed-foam design produces a light bounce when you get into bed, followed by even contouring as your body settles into the memory foam. A transitional layer of dense polyfoam offers additional cushioning and serves as a buffer between you and the support core.Bed in a Box mattresses: These mattresses get their name from being rolled up into one easy to transport cylinder. Rolled mattresses can have a variety of fillings, including open spring or reflex foam. These mattresses are perfect for people who are constantly on the move. To test for motion isolation, we use a tool called a vibrometer to measure the vibrations of a mattress (MMI) as a tester moves across the bed between various common sleeping positions. The graph below shows the vibrations produced by the Nectar, and how this compares to the average foam mattress. Memory foam mattresses have a reputation for trapping heat, but new formulations of foam offer far better temperature regulation and are well worth considering. They consist of a base layer of supportive foam, usually topped with a second (and in some cases third) layer of softer foam which moulds to your body shape for comfort.

The Elite Hybrid begins with a memory foam comfort layer. Cooling gel infused into the foam helps reduce heat absorption to keep the surface cool. The transitional polyfoam layer is divided into five firmness zones to reinforce the midsection, where people tend to carry a disproportionate amount of weight, while cradling lighter areas of the body. To test for motion isolation, we use a tool called a vibrometer to measure the vibrations of a mattress (MMI) as a tester moves across the bed between various common sleeping positions. The graph below shows the vibrations produced by the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora, and how this compares to the average hybrid mattress.

Given that Simba’s seven-layer Hybrid Pro is our best buy, why would you consider the new 13-layer Hybrid Ultra, which is over three times the price? (By the way, you should always wait for one of Simba’s extremely frequent major discounts.) The top of the Saatva mattress utilizes several types of foam, including a specialty polyfoam and a memory foam pad under your lumbar area. These foams are quilted into the Euro-top, which has a cover made of smooth, breathable organic cotton. The coils allow for plenty of ventilation and enhance the bed’s overall edge support. The surface is also infused with TitanCool, a phase change material that helped keep the bed cool and comfortable during our heat-mapping tests.
