About this deal

M&S gives good competition - even if they are on the pricier side - with their all butter assortment and is definitely a worthy contender with their rich and buttery biscuit. I mean, I have definitely had worse shortbread, and I feel like this may have been a delightful piece of shortbread had it not gone against other strong contenders. The verdict Not only do they deliver on the taste, but it's a good shout for those of us who are a little more money conscious. Chilling the dough before baking will help the shortbread keep their shape while cooking. In the oven, the dough will spread as the butter in the mixture melts, but baking it from chilled helps reduce this effect. It’s most important to do this if you are baking the shortbread in individual biscuits.

I know they may be the more pricier option, but considering the quality and the amount you get in the assortment, you can't really go wrong. lt;p>Highland speciality shortbread is made for you in the heart of Scotland using only the finest natural ingredients.&nbsp;</p> If - like me- you're looking for shortbread that is rich, crumbly, buttery sweet, then Lidl is definitely the supermarket to go to with their stellar Deluxe All Butter Scottish Shortbread Fingers. As soon as I took my first bite I was pleasantly surprised to find a buttery and crumbly biscuit that just melted in the mouth.

What is Poundstretcher?

lt;p>Highland Speciality shortbread is made for you in the heart of Scotland. Baked using only the finest natural ingredients, this delicious selection of shortbread is uniquely inspired by our Scottish heritage.</p> Poundstretcher is one of the country’s leading variety discount retailer for quality food, toiletries, garden essentials and homeware brands. It was established by Paul Appell in 1981 and is currently owned by the Crown Crest Group. To date, the company has more than 400 stores nationwide. These shortbread bears are super buttery, light, not too sweet, and so, so cute! They are very beginner friendly, since no special equipment is needed. All you really need to make the dough is a mixing bowl, fork/hand whisk, and rubber spatula. And after baking, melted chocolate is used to decorate the faces, so you don’t have to make any icing.

lt;p><strong>Wheat</strong> flour (with calcium, iron, niacin, thiamin), Vegetable oil (palm oil, rapeseed oil), Sugar, Cornflour, Butter (<strong>milk</strong>), Full cream <strong>milk</strong> powder, Natural butter flavour (<strong>milk</strong>), Salt, Emulsifier E481, Raising agents (sodium bicarbonate), Natural colouring (&szlig; carotene).&nbsp;</p>

GIFT RANGE

It also wasn't as buttery as the other options, but it did have a light dusting of sugar on the top which I only really got with the aftertaste. This part is totally optional, but if you’d like to make a chocolate version, you can split the finished dough into two bowls. In one bowl, add in 2 tablespoons of sifted cocoa powder, and mix until the color is uniform. If you don’t want to make a chocolate flavored dough, you can just add in brown food coloring. Shaping the bear heads It may be but a simply biscuit, but we certainly have a fond place in our hearts for a good piece of shortbread. Light - Have a job that involves long periods of sitting (office-based / driving) or are home-based and sitting for much of the day. Typical jobs: office worker, sales rep, bus/taxi/lorry driver. We put four different supermarkets - Lidl, M&S, Farmfoods and Sainsbury's - up to the test to see how they fare and if they were worthy of being dunked into our cup of tea.

Natural colouring (carotene).</p> So, for best results, use a scale. If you don’t have one, gently spoon and level the flour into your measuring cup! Splitting the dough Off to a solid-start as M&S very rarely disappoint when it comes to the quality of their own-branded food and, while this is only the first sample, it's already a winner from the first bite.I'm actually usually quite happy with Farmfoods, they definitely have their place on the high street, but they did fall just that bit short with these shortbread fingers. In terms of the biscuit itself, it was done no favours by the fact that it was really thin and didn't have the crumbly layers that should come with shortbread. The only very slight negative I had was that there was not enough sugar to completely make this a solid full marks, but other than that it is a delightful biscuit and I am easily on to a winner. Creating little holes in the top of the shortbread helps any moisture escape from the dough so it cooks more evenly, this also helps create the very ‘short’ texture of the biscuits. In baking terms, 'short' means crumbly with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. It comes from using a high proportion of fat (or shortening) to flour and is also where shortcrust pastry gets its name.

lt;p>This shortbread continues to be made using high-quality ingredients, to an age-old recipe.</p>
