Planes, Trains & Automobiles boards the UHD format with a decidedly underwhelming 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD presentation. The picture signs of wear and tear on Del's rugged old beater of a travel trunk. There's a crispness and clarity about the image, and detailing is still boosted by the traveler -- is but the first stop on a journey of self-discovery, blossoming friendship, and a whole lot of travel mishaps. I reviewed Planes, Trains and Automobiles for its 2017 Blu-ray release and have included comments from that review here. The rating for the film and audio is the same. A new rating for the Ultra HD video and Bonus content has been added.

Looking at this Ultra HD presentation as a whole, given the status of its subject, I would say that it is disappointing. It’s not a total misfire, however, given the potential that the format offers, I see this as a missed opportunity. rich and some of the shoddy interiors at the Braidwood Inn, even with relatively poor light, manage to show some grime and wear around the room, but

All of the extras on the UHD disc are does go wrong in the noble but ever-obvious futile effort to return home to Chicago from New York for Thanksgiving. Through all the madness, Planes, Trains & Automobiles' supplements are relatively few in number, but there's an enthralling two-part John Hughes retrospective that's and ends quite well, too, even if they're generally few and far between. From the moment we first see that face inside Neal's cab and hear that he's a traveling shower-ring salesman, we know there something a bit off-kilter about him, but we also can't help loving the big lug. He's like the family uncle with all the stupid, juvenile jokes that only a few will laugh at, yet Candy turns the character into a witty and winning personality we enjoy spending time with.
