About this deal

Alison Flood (11 September 2014). " 'Next Generation' of 20 hotly-tipped poets announced by Poetry Book Society". The Guardian. In September 2013, their play Hopelessly Devoted was produced by Paines Plough and premiered at Birmingham Rep Theatre. [20] i read amanda palmer's art of asking in my second year of university, & it helped me when i was trying to form a framework for thinking about mutuality & vulnerability & performance, it gave me new ideas to use in the ongoing process of ! trying to make sense of what i wanted for myself ! & because i read it because i liked amanda palmer's music, & the messy loudness of her public persona, it felt meaningful to me, to trace out my own emerging thoughts & feelings in the pattern of someone that interested & excited me. i'll never retract my original thoughts on that book, but since then i've consciously parted ways with her as a performer & a persona -- i have no interest in re-reading it & have become much more sceptical abt both it & her. And so it continues. This month, Tempest heads to the US on tour. The European leg starts in April. There is another novel in the works; a book of poetry, too. There’s more, of course. So much of it. “I can feel myself at an important moment creatively,” they say. “Things spinning around in my head; coming out of my hands.” Frankly, I say, it sounds exhausting. Beaumont-Thomas, Ben (6 August 2020). "Kate Tempest announces they are non-binary, changes name to Kae". The Guardian.

Tempest began writing and performing their unique blend of spoken word poetry and hip hop at 16, starting with open mic nights at Deal Real, the famed hip hop record store.

"Kate Tempest, a British Triple Threat, Crosses the Pond". New York Times . Retrieved 7 September 2022. But Tempest isn’t talking about merely missing a good night out at a gig or show. On Connection looks at creativity as a means of counteracting the numbness of the modern world. We get so caught up in an ever-spinning consumerist hamster wheel that we neglect what is true within ourselves and one another. “In a disconnected state, self-awareness is one of the first frequencies to be scooped out and muted,” they write. “When this happens, I need creativity to reconnect me.” Anyone who has seen Tempest live has likely witnessed their talent for sparking connection Facebook TV Commercial, 'We're Never Lost If We Can Find Each Other' Song by Kate Tempest". iSpot.tv . The surgery went ahead, with three full weeks of total vocal rest to follow. “I was reduced to the corporeal. After a lifetime of trying to escape my body, trying to be more than my body, trying to excuse my body, needing to talk my way out of my body because it was the wrong body and it didn’t look like other people’s bodies, I was my body entirely,” Tempest writes. Tempest has an excited energy when recounting each passion project and career high. But when it comes to discussing more personal topics during our interview, they cut themselves off – lots of pensive staring. Neale, Matthew (16 November 2019). a b "Kate Tempest – 'Let Them Eat Chaos' ". mercuryprize.com. Mercury Prize. 2 August 2017 . Retrieved 6 February 2018. Helder verwoord, krachtig uitgewerkt, nergens pedant of belerend en steeds met oog voor falen en het recht daarop. En niet half zo zweverig als mijn laatste zin van de vorige alinea leek. :) waarvoor excuus.

a b c Mahoney, Elisabeth (27 March 2012). "Wasted – review". The Guardian . Retrieved 6 February 2018. The book also reveals the darker side of Tempest’s fame: while “running from gig to gig four nights a week”, they developed nodules on their vocal cords, stopping them from speaking or performing until they could be operated on.

Since the release of Everybody Down, Tempest has increased touring as a musician, [22] playing at festivals and headlining shows with their live band which consists of Kwake Bass on drums, [23] Dan Carey on synths and Clare Uchima on keyboards. [24]

Beaumont-Thomas, Ben (6 August 2020). "Kate Tempest announces they are non-binary, changes name to Kae". The Guardian . Retrieved 7 August 2020. Kae’s album Let Them Eat Chaos was released in 2016, alongside a volume of poetry of the lyrics (Picador), and was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and the Costa Prize for Poetry, respectively. Their third album, The Book of Traps and Lessons, was released in 2019 and nominated for the Ivor Novello. In On Connection, Tempest reveals the “strange and passionate relationship” they have had with their own creativity since the age of 12, “suffering from mental health problems and using drugs and alcohol to cope with a difficult brain, troubles at home and gender dysphoria”. Two weeks later, I am sitting across from Tempest and Murphy once more, this time in a booth at a south London recording studio. A few days earlier, they’d texted to suggest another meeting. “I shied away from talking about myself last time we met,” they say, slowly. There’s a vulnerability to their voice. “I feel like I have to be careful. I’m a storyteller: I know the power of stories.” Through their work, of course, Tempest shares snapshots of their life. But poetry and prose allow details to be blurred; art can exist in the abstract.
