About this deal

The intuitive control panel makes operation simple for everyone allowing you to get the results you want with no confusion. The large 4.8L tank means you will need to empty the unit less often than with comparable units for added peace of mind. The low running costs makes Arete extremely energy efficient and affordable to run 24/7, meaning your house will feel the maximum benefit of having a dehumidifier. Are there lots of settings to find your way around?

I tested the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier in a couple of different areas throughout my home to get a good feel of exactly what it could do. For context, I live in a Victorian terrace, so as you can imagine, dampness and mould can be an issue, especially when it’s been raining a lot. Using the HEPA filter will increase noise levels and reduce water extraction efficiency slightly, b ut this is the trade-off for cleaner air.

The performance and design of this dehumidifier has been created around the British climate and the British user. Arete dehumidifies most efficiently between 10°C and 20°C, to extract the maximum amount of water from the air, when you need it most. Standard dehumidifiers are created to work most efficiently at 27°C, way above the average temperature of a British household.

The extensive feature set makes this the perfect dehumidifier for almost any home and can be deployed in any room as well as conservatories, garages, boats, or caravans with exceptional performance. There's a hose adaptor clipped onto the water tank should you wish to add a pump and hose – available separately. With this, you can plumb the Arete One in and enjoy continuous draining rather than having to manually empty the tank. Most people will opt for manual emptying, however, and for them, there are two ways to know when it's time to empty the tank. It'll beep to let you know it's full, and switch itself off, or you can see the tank's water level through the window in the front of the machine. Once you've slid the tank out, there's a handle on the top to carry it, and a spout on each side so you can empty it by tipping it in either direction. Meaco’s existing 20L MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier produced a maximum 44dB(A) of noise at one metre and consumed roughly 244W. The Arete One is specified to top out at 40dB(A) and consume around 250W, although – as we’ll see later – measured consumption is actually much lower. There are two versions of this product, one that can remove 20 litres of water per day and a larger 250-litre per day model (at 30ºC and 80% relative humidity; the water removal depends on the environment you’re in). Both have a 4.8-litre water tank, which means that the worst-case scenario would involve emptying it several times per day; in my tests, the tank needed emptying every one or two days. There’s a status light that indicates when the tank needs emptying – the dehumidifier shuts down automatically when the tank is full.
