I use the grip on my D850 as I gain in fps and the EN-EL18 battery naturally lasts a lot longer than the much smaller EN-EL15. I take an extra EN-EL15 battery out when shooting and it is easier to do this than have the added bulk and weight of the grip on the D500. I use the grip with the battery cover and the 18a to c battery to shoot all day as others have said and it balances well with many of the long lenses I use on the D500.

FWIW, I used the Wasabi EN-EL 18 batteries (and matching charger) with the grip for my D850 and they work great. Just 196 shutter count and only the lack of original packaging and “new camera smell” would suggest it isn’t new!
