About this deal

James Delingpole, writing in The Daily Telegraph described the book as dark but moral, "The scene in which the boy's father, mother and sister are disemboweled and shredded by the demon Lord Loss and his vile familiars Artery and Vein, must surely be the most jaw-droppingly grisly in children's literature. The book repeats the formula of The Saga of Darren Shan and will no doubt be loved by Shan's many fans. Lord Loss kills people in the cruelest ways he can think of; in Bec he has the zombies of Orna's own children eat her alive all to provide him with a delicious meal. Despite this it turns out that he is actually one of the weaker Demon Masters, though he later becomes the strongest after Grubbs, Bec and Kernel remake the universe. Darren Shan is really good at writing mentor relationships where the main character gets a second father. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. His speech pattern is characterised by a tone of immense sadness, coupled with the use of quite a sophisticated vocabulary; he rarely uses abbreviations, and always addresses characters by their full names as opposed to nicknames. That teens would be unable to relate to a story entirely about a badass demon-fighting protagonist with a burning urge to stay alive and that it would be a better idea to tone it down for a few chapters so that teens could read instead about a protagonist doing exciting things like watch movies with a friend in his living room? This disturbing tale in the supernatural, zombie/horror genre has a refreshingly inventive storyline and credible and likeable protagonists the reader can really root for.

Darren was seventeen when he finished his first (unpublished) novel, and wrote lots more unpublished novels over the next several years. I have not read very many books that are written in the present tense, so it was a little different at first. The movie rights to Cirque Du Freak were bought by Universal, and the first movie (which combined elements from the first three books in the series) was released in October 2009, starring newcomer Chris Massoglia as Darren Shan, along with a wide array of established stars such as Josh Hutcherson, John C Reilly, Salma Hayek, Willem Defoe and Ken Watanabe.Lord Loss is angered when Meera kills herself to finally kill Juni Swan (originally a Disciple, she turned to the Demonata after her resurrection in Demon Thief).

He is just so much fun and while possibly by 2019 could be some super sensitive PC crap like many other authors (I don't know), at the point when he wrote this he was just unashamed awesome. Fourteen months later Grubbs has been caring for Dervish in his zombie-like state, also dealing with the fear that he'll turn into a werewolf. Then afterward, at the cave, before and after Bec, Grubbs, Kernel and Beranabus time travel through the power of the Kah Gash. The many individual cracks in his skin, which seep blood every time he even slightly moves, give his demonic appearance a nice touch as well.

If you don't like the ideas of demons, magic, and walking, talking embodiments of evil, you shouldn't read this book.
