A flavour profile of each plant lets us know what taste we should expect and a nutritional profile informs us of the nutrients each plant provides. Alongside a growing want to try and use natural, rather than synthetic, methods to provide medicinal remedies and a general desire from a lot of us to get back to mature this book has come along at a great time.minute review of Robin Harford’s lovely new book on The Edible and Medicinal plants of Britain and Ireland. I was disappointed as it had no illustrations and you would have to rely on written descriptions to identify plants. Each plant description tells us which parts of the plant can be used for food as well as how to use those parts. Its a bit tricky trying to read it while looking at my phone while walking in the countryside looking for things I want to forage, all at the same time without falling over a log. My book covers forty-eight plants and includes multiple colour photographs for easy plant identification.

In only a few weeks this exceptional book has helped increase my knowledge of and awareness of, the wild larder that is always within our grasp.Edible and Medicinal Wild Plants of Britain and Ireland | Covering 48 wild edible and medicinal plants, I have written this book to help you rediscover our forgotten plant heritage. The author has spent fifteen years experimenting and learning about wild plants and how our ancestors used plants to nourish and heal themselves. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too. Instead of providing a snapshot for each plant, Harford gives a link to a database of pictures which give a more indepth photography for each plant and a better resource for identification.

My book is considered an invaluable addition to any forager, herbalist, gardener, horticulturist or naturalist’s library.I love ebook versions of these sort of things because I can check them on the kindle app on my phone when I'm out and about. Cautions for plants, where necessary are given and if the plant has any other interesting uses then these are also covered. He has travelled extensively documenting and recording the traditional and local uses of wild food plants in indigenous cultures, and his work has taken him to Africa, India, SE Asia, Europe and the USA. I absolutely love this book, it is a very valuable foraging companion on wild walks and as reference when I teach forest school. I’ve read many foraging books that have provided comprehensive pictures so that seems a bit of a cop out to me, not even illustrations so at least we could get the gist of what it kind of looks like and then if we do want to attempt finding it in the wild we could reference his guide? Stepping back into the wild with this book has really felt like coming home and I am so grateful to the author for enabling this adventure.
