It is written by Gary Lincoff (also the author of The Complete Mushroom Hunter listed below), and the information is useful. This is an excellent book to have on the shelf for cross-reference, but not for everyday identification use. Mushrooms demystified has “dichotomous keys” for all the genera of mushrooms, so it is super helpful for actually getting down to the species name for the mushrooms you find in the woods. Little did I know until I opened the book there are at least 200 different types in the UK, the last thing you would want is to be sat there for 10 or 15 minutes trying to figure out which species it is! Before I knew it existed, I picked up Winkler’s accordian style fold-out “A Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest”.

To facilitate the identification process and provide some guidance, this article aims to recommend a few fungi identification books. They’re more reliable than identification apps, they don’t run out of battery and often give you a much more comprehensive understanding of the mushroom and its life cycle. I'll third that, The Collins book was my first ever shroom book given to me a couple of years ago and though not as comprehensive as RP I reckon it's a good un for the novice.
