About this deal

His engaging travel writing documents the fascinating history of each bothy and the adventurers who use them. With full maps and detailed information on the locations and approach routes – by canoe, foot and bicycle – plus a forward by legendary quadruple amputee mountaineer Jamie Andrew. This book is everything the bothy lover could want or need, beautifully produced and enormously practical. Hiding away in one is my mental fantasy on a tough work day, so I love thumbing thru this book for inspiration and smiles. Even for the armchair enthusiast, the book is so well organized and presented (with excellent maps and indexes, too) that just by reading it you feel you are learning more about the real Scotland.

Rich in knowledge and information that reflects Allan's wealth of bothying experience, The Scottish Bothy Bible is the essential guide to wild adventure living.Written by the founder of the ‘Bothies on a Bike’ blog, it offers detailed information on the locations and approach routes by foot, canoe and bicycle and highlights the best bothies for Munros, beach, seclusion and families.

to know there is a bothy in the middle of Knoydart is interesting, but i would have liked pinpoint maps showing paths and approaches etc, rather than just a grid ref. Firstly the pictures themselves are brilliant, and a brief history is given in relation to the bothy. As you can tell from the front cover the photography inside is stunning and really captures the places well.

The Scottish bothy bible is the first ever complete guide book to Scotland’s bothies, featuring full details on over 100 MBA bothies and more. Presenting a complete listing of bothies, including high-traffic spots and hidden gems, Allan takes the reader to Viking longhouses, island hideaways and highland homesteads, recounting captivating histories, imparting useful approach information, and sharing practical hillcraft knowledge along the way.

I'm sure it will be of use to the adventurous as, even though I'm not a hiker/mountaineer, it seems to have vital information I would have thought necessary for each Bothy: size (rooms, sleeping numbers), map lat/long location (plus indicative maps), fuel/water supply (do you need to take any etc) key local attractions, public transport, special notes about access/restrictions, different routes to each (parking, distance from and time of walk, terrain). Written by acclaimed author Geoff Allan, this informative book makes the perfect gift for any outdoor lovers and adventurers alike.
