I could have loved it, given how much I loved Alastair and his beautiful, dirty mouth and how much he revered Cora.

The only reasons I’m giving it 4/5 stars is because there were some confusing moments for me as a reader that just didn’t tie in together super smooth. They don’t strip bare in an alley and spread their delicious thighs, and they certainly don’t ask the monster to fuck them. there was a plot twist wannabe at the end, but how can there be a plot twist when there’s no plot at all? I really was not expecting much out of this book but I got a man obsessed, feral for his girl and soft for her.

i understand having it written in the sense that the reader experiences some of what the mc feels but it’s to the point that i didn’t even know if he was alive until the actual end. one second he’s on the marshal’s side and okay with his sister being collateral damage (literally dying so his debt can be forgiven) and the next he’s sad and shoots himself.

Cora get hit in the hid, gets unconscious and had blunt force trauma and the next chapter she doesn’t acknowledge being attack? Ugh she was such a strong fmc that literally frustrated and amazed me with how hard headed she could be sometimes. every time i read her books i swear the female characters do nothing for me, i can never connect with them. And I wish there was a bit more development from Cora and Alistair as well as development together as a couple. She didn't expect her new boss to be the hot, British stranger she hooked up with the night before her interview, or for him to be so brazen with his desires.

Alastair was much more then I was expecting from the glimpses we got in the previous book about his brother. I’d guess hostess perhaps, if the frown on her face didn’t seem permanently etched, like that of a marble statue. The fact it took me 2 weeks to finish this book should speak volumes because I usually devour Sav’s books in like 2/3 days🤧. Instead, Cora (who is so irresistible but SO unappealing to me) goes round and round with Alastair keeping him at arms length even until the last line of the epilogue.
