The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft Second Edition by Denise Zimmermann (****)- There is a newer edition out, but I haven't read it. I often find reading the letters around that time of year has helped to inspire me, encourage creativity and encourage me to standstill for a brief moment, take a deep breath and look around at what is happening within and without.

If you are a frequent reader you have seen me complain quite often that many witches and authors get hedgecraft wrong. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings. I understand I can change my preference through my account settings or unsubscribe directly from any marketing communications at any time. Written in the form of letters from an experienced witch to her two apprentices, solitary witchcraft is offered, not as a substitute for coven worship, but as a fulfilling lifestyle in its own right. What I really like about Harmonia's book "Hedge Witchcraft " is that it is full of soul, full of who we all are, and maybe have forgotten . You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods. As she walks, she watches the way the leaves on the bushes blow in the wind, knowing from ancient weather-lore that this will tell her if it will rain or if the sun will shine. Feels a bit odd not being hard back {my last one was suitably black/hard cover} but the wisdom and common sense is still there. It’s a lovely story, a sort of tentacle that reaches from the hive – one of the many threads of magic of this series.

I was wondering if you have any sources for more bardic and or tarot inclined witches (which is where I lean)? It has the absolute perfect size, and somehow it's really light, lighter than you'd expect, the spine flops the pages open beautifully; there's no effort involved at all, and the pages themselves are a beautiful cream colour and ever so slightly textured. This path teaches you how to create a more beneficial life for all beings through traditional folkloric knowledge, a relationship with nature, and the art of hedge riding (trance work). As a person that doesn't necessarily believe in any deities, it was nice to see my views represented in this chapter.van der Hoeven mentions that some witches believe deities are the forces of nature and therefore do not feel the need to personify them. She whispers to us, " Remove the line that lies between you and the hills, lakes, rivers, oceans" And she is by our side as we follow her whispers. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. I integrated some of her recommended visualization exercises into my inchoate meditation routines, and to beneficial results (i.

This part also discusses the different sabbats and I love that she mentions that these festivals are largely a modern invention that pulled holidays from multiple different regions, practices, and cultures and smushed them all together. It teaches you about the pegan holidays, their purpose, their origin, and ideas on how to celebrate them. She offers multiple ways to hedge ride, including using a stang, meditation, and liminal spaces as portals. Her lyrical letters, accompanied by delicate pen-and-ink sketches, bring the reader towards a deeper understanding of the solitary witch’s lifestyle and beliefs. Instead, this book is a continuing introduction into Wicca and is full of misconceptions and false statements regarding witches in general.

Thereafter, this fantasy adventure, which is reminiscent of James Nicol’s splendid, The Apprentice Witch, is outstanding! So you never really got an idea for the interest of the other party, making the book seem more like a collection of community college lectures on a subject.

Witches, especially hedgewitches, were and are traditionally healers, making this book an excellent addition to any pagan library. It was written in the form of letters, advising two newcomers to the craft on ritual and practice, but unfortunately, as the author was not privy to all the readers beliefs (obv. Beth gets most of the history of hedgecraft wrong and the rituals are very complicated and too formal for most hedgewitches. It then goes on to describe the Celtic festivals of the year and how a hedge witch views them, along with a good section on the elements and the magic that they hold. She knows from experience just how to walk with one foot in Faerie and one in the Everyday World—without recourse to hallucinogens—and she tells us about it and what can be gained from it.
