About this deal

Mouth mount is the best way to capture the waves from a first-person perspective, and it also creates more stable footage compared to its alternative. This is the reason why you’ll spot a lot of pro surfers like Kelly Slater, Mason Ho, and Nat Young biting onto these things when they’re surfing. Don’t want to shoot yourself surfing or not high level enough to get the shots you want? Why not use your GoPro to shoot other surfers from the water? The floaty grip is my go to for this style of shooting and a set of fins can really make life heaps easier.

You can spend a fortune on the premium versions but they are a lot more and don’t do that much more in terms of what you’ll need, namely capturing your waves to help you improve. Several products are available in the market if you are looking for GoPro mounts to shoot great POV shots of your surfing adventures. There are many ways to achieve this. You can attach your camera to your surfboard using a quality GoPro Surfboard Mount. Or you can opt for a GoPro Mouth Mount to capture footage from your own POV while surfing. Mouth mount: Using a mouth mount, you can hold the GoPro in your mouth while surfing. This gives a more immersive point-of-view (POV) angle, capturing your line of sight as you ride the waves. Not only did it look awkward but it was costing me valuable time in my take-off and, as such, I’ve tried to improve it since then. Me in West Sumbawain 2010, capturing my awkward take-off with knee all skewiff!I learned from this, though. The best place to mount your GoPro is at the front, facing you, although a mouth-mount is also good. This should be 4-8 inches from the nose of your surfboard for the best angle of you surfing.

Opening Times

A GoPro mounted at the front of your board that is rear-facing is best for learning to surf and improving. POV – or point of view – shots are used to describe footage and pics from the users viewpoint, which is the style GoPros have become super famous for.

However, you should take note that GoPros mounted on a surfboard doesn’t always take the most awesome videos. Sky-high waves tend to look flat when their shots are taken from a surfboard’s point of view; making your shots a bit pointless since no one will believe you’ve surfed those waves you’re bragging about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnk9pbR2-6Q Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Glassy Gliders at Llangennith Friday 16th March 2018 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnk9pbR2-6Q) Before attempting to install your GoPro surfboard mount, it’s important that you have all the correct parts. In this section, I’ll share all the items needed to attach your GoPro surfboard mount. Below are the essentials: You’ll get incredible footage riding the waves if you ask a friend to film you. Ask him/her to join you, but to sit out a few waves and film you, then return the favor.

GoPro Surf Mount – ASURF-001

So all, if you’ve made it this far – top marks. I’m hoping my ‘How To Install GoPro Surfboard Mount’ guide has helped a little on your journey to surfing nirvana. If you did find it useful, it would be great to hear from you in the comments below. The few clips I got using this mount, a few days before snapping the board in heavy surf, were constantly covered in water droplets and spray from the wake of my board. It also features 8X slo-mo at 2.7K resolution– so you can savor the moment as the wave curls and you enter the tube. Surfers can be an egoistic bunch. We like to watch and relive our best performances. We also like to boast about the biggest waves we’ve ever ridden to other surfers — and what better evidence is there other than a video you’ve captured yourself? GoPros are waterproof, but they still need a casing for extra protection. The problem with this is that when in water, these casings tend to fog because of condensation, making the videos blurry in the process. To keep your footage’s color crisp and clear, we recommend using anti-fog inserts. GoPro Settings

It’ll keep your hands free, and help you capture some great angles. It’s as close as you can get to showing friends what things look like from your viewpoint. If you’re shooting in crowded spots regularly a surf helmet is also well worth the investment! Hand Offs This can create a cool effect when added to your video, it will help viewers focus their attention where you want it. 6. Switch up your angle and field of view With both photo and video I use the following ProTune settings which I find work well in most situations. If the light isn’t great you can always push the ISO slightly higher, but don’t overdo it. You can also adjust the white balance manually if you’re shooting in specific lighting conditions too.Carrying your GoPro using a mouth mount in the surf is a great option for capturing the vibe and the feeling of surfing. Unfortunately the Max Lens Mod is in very limited supply, so if you see one in don’t hesitate to grab one! According to its manufacturer, the installation process is similar to how you would install rope in a prone surfboard. If you have a wood surfboard and you’re worried that it will absorb water because of the hole, you can reinforce it by sealing its top and bottom with a sealant. This product doesn’t use adhesives. Instead, it uses a tool that needs to be screwed right through your board, making it a sturdier and more secure GoPro mount. (So unless you want to drill a hole in your surfboard using a screwdriver, you might want to skip this product.) However, GoPro do recommend the 24 hour period for a reason and it’s all about that precious bonding time. The only reason I waited the 24 hours is because if I didn’t and my GoPro fell off, I’d feel like an idiot.

To begin, surfing while attempting to hold a GoPro is annoying and is difficult to capture a shot fully in frame. I haven’t tried the GoPro mouthpiece, but I imagine that would be another annoyance. For this reason, I prefer to attach a GoPro surfboard mount. This will keep your hands free and allow you to focus on your surfing. As a result, you will get perfectly in frame photos and videos as seen below 🙂 My Recommended GoPro Camera / Model https://youtu.be/zsQK52vVtRY?t=286 Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Can You Use A GoPro Surf Mount On A Foam Surfboard? (https://youtu.be/zsQK52vVtRY?t=286)Chest mounts and mouth mounts are the best options for this and they create some epic angles for barrels, big turns and cruisey down the line shots. Front Of Board (Standard) As for clips shot using a mouth mount, these are awesome to have as a memento of your session, and the mouth-mount angle shows others exactly how it is to ride a wave on a surfboard. With GoPro prices ranging from USD 250 to a little over USD 400, there’s no way you would want to lose your camera in the sea. That’s why if you want to keep your GoPro safe and sound on the top of your surfboard, you might as well put your trust in the makers of GoPros itself.
