About this deal

Fans of Eric Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear , Leo Lionni's magical Little Blue and Little Yellow , other books about color Herve Tullet must be a very vibrant, creative, and fun person to be around. I think he is like the picasso for kids and I mean that in the best ways!! This is our third Herve book we've added to our collection (Press Here and The Scribble Book.) We really enjoy the interactive style he uses in his books, to encourage kids to participate in the story as it goes along. I am bored! I don’t have any new books to read. I am bored! My Mom is listening to the news on the radio and they are talking about the low temperatures and the surprise winter storm that is moving in.

Mom, can I go out and play?” Sally yelled out to her mother. “Dress warm,” her mother replied. “Be sure to stay close and come in before dark.” In under a minute, Sally was outside playing with her friends and having a lot of fun. Oh! She wasn’t bored anymore either.

Students that enjoy painting or art in general will enjoy learning their colors with this book. As well as, students that are more kinesthetic learners. This color mixing activity was an absolute hit. Both Theo and Lucy have already mentioned more than once they want to do it again!

Start by setting up your workspace. You want to have plenty of room for kids to explore paint mixing. We covered our kitchen table with our art mat and some large sheets of white paper. We placed all our materials right on the table so we were ready to go! She giggled as the dog started running but couldn’t go anywhere. Its legs were moving, but on the ice, its feet just kept on sliding over the same spot. “Josh, you have to see this,” she called out. But there was no reply. The snow was coming down faster and faster. Soon it was really deep. She saw people with shovels trying to clean the sidewalk or an area next to the street so they could park their car. I don't want to compare Mix it Up to Press Here, but because it's the same type of book, by the same author, there are some parallels I will comment on.

Possible answer:

AWARD-WINNING BOOK: Mix It Up! was a Junior Library Guild Selection, a Buzzfeed Best Book of the Year, a PBS Parents Best Picture Book, an ACL Distinguished Book, and selected as a Best Book of the Year by Chicago Public Library. This is an interestingway to mix the three primary colours. First we filled a shallow bowl with milk then dropped three drops of liquid red food colouring slightly away fromthe centre of the bowl. Then we added three drops of blue and three drops of yellow so that the colours formed a triangle. We squirted a small amount of washing up liquid in the centre of the triangleand watched what happened. (You can read aboutwhy the colours mix when you add the washing up liquid here). It was fascinating watching the colours move butit took a while for them to really mix together. Anyone looking to demonstrate the power of a physical book or looking for books to open the imagination This book is a part of a series Herve Tullet created with his interactive color dots. He originally wrote “Press Here”, which teaches children their colors in an interactive story. After we had tried outall the color mixing demonstrated in the book, I let the kids mix all on their own.
