About this deal

King Henry V is of course the first King after Agincourt to send correspondence in English – acknowledging this at the time was quite a dare and the English from French becomes the main language of England – the lower classes of people of the time were already speaking English regularly. Finely bound by Asprey in three-quarter red morocco over cloth boards, with gilt to spines, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. What makes this set especially collectible is that in Volume I it is boldly signed in ink by Winston S. Most states and most peoples want to bow and curtsy, and if it's not for one representative, for example, a red head from Scotland, then it's for another, such as the daughter in a more familiar, local family.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. The consequence of the monasteries is of course one that provides revenue for a Kingdom suffering from not enough money. The set was presented by Churchill to his close friend and associate Frank Clarke, who famously hosted Winston and Clementine Churchill at his Miami Beach home in January and February 1946, prior to Churchill's March appearance at Fulton College, Missouri to deliver what would come to be known as his "Iron Curtain" speech. He was clearly satisfied with the result, remarking with pardonable exuberance "It opens like an angel's wings. Prior to this however was the brilliance in the plan of King James I and the creation of the full English reading bible – for the time and with no copy ability and next to nothing of a British Postal Service; the Committees located at Oxford, Cambridge, and Westminster (comprised of 50+ scholars and divines. This is a pre-publication publisher’s review copy of the third volume of Churchill’s sweeping history and last great work. Churchill, who himself made history as Prime Minister of Great Britain twice, twice (1940–45 and 1951–55. My personal opinion of King Henry V was only solidified in this accounting – unfortunately for history King Henry V died earlier that what one would have hoped.

In this Volume III we read in addition to William and Mary; that of Queen Anne, the Duke of Marlborough, and the ill-fated investment/opportunists of the 1720 South Sea Company that had promised (and outbid the Bank of England) to wipe away the National Debt of the time. They both had their good points; but, Disraeli was the more preferred between the two when it came to Queen Victoria. This full, four-volume publisher's presentation set is near fine plus in very good plus dust jackets. Of course, the reason could be that American readers - this is an American edition - already know all there is to know about both subjects, and only those who are especially interested in the British point of view will ever bother to read those chapters.Perhaps not coincidentally, this is the very year that saw Churchill conclude his first North American lecture tour, take his first seat in Parliament, and begin to make history himself. S. first edition is certainly less stately in appearance, though in our opinion perhaps excessively maligned as being an unattractive edition. One can tell by reading Sir WSC’s words that he held a deep respect for the ruggedness of Andrew Jackson and that of Sam Houston. Page edges very good condition top edges gilt, fore and bottom edges very lightly tanned with some foxing. This volume begins with King William III and Queen Mary II; a tumultuous left over location of the world following the removal of King James II.
