You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I really enjoyed that even with such disorganisation that she achieved her journey funny sad and a great read to pick up and adventure along with Elise.

Using beautifully crafted language, his descriptions of the sea in its various moods, small ports and (crumbling) villages are enchanting. I love hiking, one of the reasons is how remote things are and that there is nobody else around, bliss for me. It's the kind of book that makes you want to lace up your trainers and start running towards that mad idea you once had. Some of the descriptions are masterful, breathtaking, even, but I found that the constant slightly superior dislike of the UK jarred much more this time than last.I really enjoyed hearing about all the kindness from strangers but I found her complete lack of organisation, being bailed out by her parents numerous times, missing school talks because of a hangover and popping home for some comfort, quite grating. It made me think that maybe I could do an adventure too- even I can read a map better than ED could back then!

One of my favourite scenes was a dinner with the elderly poet Philip Larkin, who the author had known as a young undergraduate.

She succeeds in drawing back the curtain of the bravado and gloss that often surrounds 'adventure', showing myriad parts in their gory, beautiful, painful and, often, mundane detail. Having said all that, I do think it is quite a remarkable thing that a 23yr old decided to do this (and whilst she could) rather than stick to the norms of life that probably a lot of her friends were doing and take herself out of her comfort zone. For the most part, though, the English, both men and women, are afflicted by such a morbid decay of their libido that it has always puzzled the rest of the world how the English manage to reproduce themselves at all. When it comes to sex, they are furtive and hypocritical - and their erotic tastes are known to be extremely peculiar.

Someone said, "Life is too short to read a bad book," and while this isn't necessarily a bad book, it's not, imo, a good book. I read Raban's Passage to Juneau: A Sea and Its Meanings years ago and really enjoyed it, and so with this book years later, I absolutely loved it.Our Non-Fiction Range includes: Academic, Photography, Audio books, Business, Cook Books, Craft Books, Health and Fitness Books, Mind, Body, Spirit (Tarot). The idea of 'coasting' is well demonstrated, and the book has a pace of it's own, of the sea, and of the time in which it was written. Coasting shares the literal highs and lows as she finds her rite of passage to the world of ultra-running, with an endearing vulnerability and hilarious flair that brings places to life. However, this was all a backdrop to the seascapes that he travels through, the looking cliffs, fast races and eddy’s, sandbanks and other much larger boats that would challenge him every day of the journey.
