I did a drawing of them holding huge rifles with a speech bubble saying ‘Real Men Don’t Fire Blanks’ and blu tacked it to my wall. DR and Quinch are two sociopathic college kids from the future who go around blowing things up, killing people and causing trouble. And, like, under no circumstances whatsoever was I held upside-down over a pterano-gator-infested water-hole until I agreed to sign it.

His recitations of Shakespeare sound like something translated into a foreign language through Babblefish and then back into English.Totally Radical: Both title characters are likely to describe just about anything with a two-word phrase based on an adverb such as, "totally," "incredibly," "unbelievably," or "extremely" compounded with an adjective like, "amazing," "awesome," "incredible," "unbelievable," "extreme," or "stupid. He’s also very good with facial expressions which successfully convey the thoughts and emotions of the characters. I have to question the point where I'm actually talking about thermonuclear weapons as a source of humour. I suspect, however, that's less to blame for my dislike of the collection than that this is 2000 AD fodder, and really just the sort of thing bookish British males seem unable to live without. R." (for "Diminished Responsibility") Dobbs, (who looks a bit like a Marvelverse Skrull with a quiff) and Ernest Errol Quinch, his muscular purple skinned companion in crime. To be honest it’s not that great, the comic as a whole was aimed at kids (it features Cadet Dredd rather than Judge Dredd, for instance) and while Johnson and Bell capture the character’s speech patterns well enough the story is fairly bland, there’s weak satire of characters like Superman and Wolverine, though just altered enough so no one got sued, mockery of various pop culture tropes and a trip through history which sees the duo vandalising art in a surprisingly dull way.

Dobbs and Ernest Errol Quinch are the chaotic, planet-trashing duo – meanwhile, Intepreter Zhcchz of the Tau-Ceti Imperium has crashlanded on Earth, and must rely on his human friends to help him get home. They first appeared in a Time Twister story in 2000 AD prog 317, and proved so popular that they were given their own series, starting in prog 350.Casual Time Travel: One story has them casually time traveling and spending their holiday repeatedly messing with Earth. However, their star burnt brightly and are still fondly remembered to this day as one of the all-time classic strips to appear in 2000 AD. If you imagine Dennis the Menace with thermonuclear capacity you are probably pretty close to the idea of D. There’s a density of plot and art to the five page episodes, while Davis is brilliant, and possibly doesn’t receive enough credit for that.
