About this deal

I also really hated Jasmine, and quite frankly did not understand the purpose of her character, her lies, or their subsequent makeup. It was useless to the plot. The writing is dark. Everything is detailed; the gruesome of his vengeful kills, their abusive past, triggering scenes, and not just these but all gloomy inner thoughts. You know when you’re reading dark romances and there’s that man (MMC) = 😏🥵. Well he never appeared. We got this man = 🥴😒. I told you that if you didn’t like something, to use your voice. You did. And you were right. I don’t know who I am outside of this business. I’ve spent my whole life on one path, with one destination. I have known exactly what to do and where to be. I knew every turn.” His brilliant blue gaze softens, and I see him... I see Clay. “Fawn. Why you? Because when I’m with you, my sweet girl, I’m lost. And I quite enjoy that.” This was my first story by Nicci Harris, and I’m hooked! A great mafia story with loads of violence. And the heat between Clay and Fawn was combustible! Some BDSM made for a great tale. The contrast in Clay and Fawn’s upbringing—he in violence, and her having a rough childhood. They were like magnets to one another. Though she’s been through a lot, Fawn is a pretty tough young lady. This was a beautiful rose of a love story amongst the thorns of reality.

She has been through hell. So, believe me when I say, fear her when she looks in the fire and smiles." -E.Corona. I lift my hand to sweep her blonde hair over her shoulder and imagine how I might have taken her the first time. Had I been young and in love with her at the time. Had I been emotionally available. "He told his brothers to leave. That you were his focus now. Only you. He wasn't always gentle because he was too overwhelmed by you, little deer, but he took you thoroughly. He was never going to let you go, so he held you all night, still inside you." The words come out easily because I'm no longer talking about him. Fawn is 18 and pregnant with a baby she can not take care of on her own. There is a lot mystery surrounding the night she got pregnant. She was drugged and thinks the father may be the foster brother she loved. She shows up at Clay Butcher's house looking for the previous head of the Cosa Nostra since he was a friend of her father's. She is trying to find her father to give him her baby, but instead, she lands in the lap of her father's enemy, Clay Butcher. He is married, but they are not in a sexual or loving relationship. It was an arranged marriage for political and mafia purposes. there are spoilers ahead but i feel like the trigger warning is more important than a spoiler warningToo pretty to be so utterly vulnerable, alone, and asking for help from the deadliest man in the city—me. He nods to his desk, and I take that to mean 'slide up here and sit in front of me'. "Do I accept nods as a response?" I tease, using his words, and the corner of his lips twitch to curve further. I continue, "You know I'm not your employee. I'd like your voice not your nods." I contradict that entire sentence by doing as he silently commanded. Sliding along the wooden desk, I position myself in front of him, and plant my bare feet on his thighs.

A cliche is just one of the things to look out for while writing. They can slip in unnoticed and ruin an otherwise great paragraph. Then there's the passive voice, accents, misspelling, typos, incorrect data. The list is long. Author notes: His Pretty Little Burden is part of The Kids of The District series but can be enjoyed without the previous books, although it follows a greater narrative and is the first book in a duet. It features a powerful Mafia Don and his endearing tortured heroine. His Pretty Little Burden has an age gap dynamic that some people may find uncomfortable. It is an epic romance story, with spice, and dark themes. Enjoy. The push and pull of Clay and Fawn was INCREDIBLE. The fact that the overaching storyline that runs through the kids of the district series gets taken up a notch is something magnificent. To sum up this book in one line, I’d say it is a 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕. To start with, the dialogue between our two main characters in this book is absolutely abhorrent. They speak like robots. They speak like aliens. The grammatical structure of every sentence that comes out of their mouths is so strangely formal and inconsistent with the way people would normally speak. FINE, perhaps I could get past this when it comes to Clay. He’s a man in his thirties and he’s a mafia boss. Maybe he’s more formal. But then you have Fawn, who is created to be an absolutely naive 18 year old girl- there is NO way in hell she would be speaking the way she does in this book. It’s not normal. It made reading the book difficult because it was so stilted and awkward, that it makes it difficult to understand or connect to these characters.

Start out as a caterpillar, you then spend weeks inside a cocoon where you grow and go through so much heartache. But in the end you are a beautiful butterfly.

Sweet little Fawn is the daughter of a boss in The District Cosa Nostra. The daughter of the man who betrayed my family. Not only is she a burden—barely eighteen, naïve, the epitome of a little deer in headlights-But she is too damn pretty.Too prett...This group is a safe environment, where readers can find awesome new books to obsess over while gaining deeper insight into the creation of their favorite stories. Writers can share their craft, brainstorm and collaborate with peers. Indie Authors are showcased. All writers can find inspiration and camaraderie amongst an audience that understands their profession. Bloggers and Editors can network and discover new reads. What follows is the unexpected and inexplicably beautiful relationship that develops between the Mayor and his little deer. He and Aurora (his wife) are married for business, she is a lesbian. And the relationship between this duo is amazing. Book triggers include a graphic rape scene and a pregnancy as a result of that rape. It also has a miscarriage ⚠️ I know nothing of love, family, or stability, having been raised in the foster system and spat out at eighteen, pregnant, and with no memory of how that came to be.

I am just not a big fan of reading about my H's previous sexual and romantic endeavours. It doesn't really suit with me. Needing to redirect her from this concern, I say, "I've taken care of everything. I will take care of you. Both of you." If you haven’t read the series, this can be read as a stand alone book but the series is definitely recommended. Be advised that this is a duet. The second book is not out yet. This awkward communication between them also adds to creating an uncomfortable dynamic for me, because Fawn is literally painted as extremely naive and vulnerable- she comes across as a child most of the time. So the intimacy and their relationship is a little uncomfortable for me with the age gap and the alpha male BS that we get with our male MC. Watching their love unfold and grow was absolutely everything. Clay has the dichotomy that I love in a made man: tough with the world, tender with his woman. Their journey to happily ever after has already been bumpy and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them in His Pretty Little Queen.Anyway, onto the story: Clay is 35, newly the head of the local mafia, and the mayor of the District (the fictional Australian city where these books are set). He’s married, but for arranged mafia reasons, he and his wife don’t have a sexual relationship. I actually love this part of the book - since his wife isn’t an evil OW who’s an obstacle to his relationship with the heroine. She wants good things for him and supports it! I want Aurora to live her best lesbian life, and be a mafia queen.
