About this deal

MarkJackson I’d be suprised if they did have a control over Roku, the NowTV sticks don’t seem to be to be big enough of a deal for Roku to give up on the rest of the UK market. The first problem is that the 4K remote switches the TV on but not off, so TV remains on, with a blank screen which on first glance looks as if it’s off.

What I did like is how Netgem took some of my favourite shows and highlighted them on the Home screen. It's also possible to record to a USB using the box, although this isn't comparable to the recording services that we see from major pay TV companies. Access a treasure trove of content, including popular streaming services, live TV channels, and exclusive on-demand shows.

When we tried out its predecessor, the Netbox HD, we were impressed with the amount of services (including live TV) we could access through one system, but found the user interface to be too laggy to recommend.

If I was planning to use the Netbox 4K every day, I’d be looking to replace this with a compatible universal remote. It’s worth remembering that many of these services will require you to sign up before you are able to use them, so it’s a good idea to do this on your laptop or smartphone ahead of time so you can get watching right away. It provides access to free-to-air TV channels and radio stations, including more than 85 standard channels and HD channels – from the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4, to CBS, Sony Movies, QVC and many others. They can watch live television or recordings, or cast programmes onto the main television, using their phone or tablet as a companion controller.

There’s not much to it, otherwise, with just a logo on the top and a slim LED indicator bar at the front, which glows blue when the box is on and red when it’s in standby. Please log in to My Account if you need to view or pay your bill, manage boosts and track your usage. The Netbox, however, has a pretty slick interface – it’s not the fastest on the market (that still goes to the Manhattan T3-R), but it’s better than most Smart TV interfaces. More new content coming to Netgem includes a POP Kids channel, a channel dedicated to the classic Deal Or No Deal US show, Christmas films and more (see the full list below). It's not to everyone's liking, but it should record while you are using an app as one is over the air transmission, the other internet, so there should be no conflict. The box’s design has had a makeover from its non-4K counterpart, with a more modern, rounded and premium look and feel.

This time around, Netgem has swapped the angular style of the Netbox HD for a more attractive rounded look, with HDMI, ethernet, RF antenna, USB, and S/PDIF (digital audio) ports in the back. The box has a wide range of apps to select from, in fact BT Sport was recently added in the past month or so. Olivia was previously TechRadar's Senior Editor - Home Entertainment, covering everything from headphones to TVs.

However, it did occasionally lag, especially when pausing live TV; on one occasion, the Netbox 4K stopped working for five minutes in total, which was pretty frustrating – this could particularly be an issue if you want to pause a show at a crucial moment.
